The Big Bang
Tabitha Smith was born in Roanoke, Virginia. She was rather rebellious, moreso than most children, but her life was pretty normal until late into puberty when her X-Gene activated at the age of thirteen. Her parents, upset and ignorant about her condition, attempted to beat the mutation out of the young, frightened girl. This forced her to flee her home out of fear for her own life, running from the two people who should have represented safety and security to her.
Life on the streets for a child proved difficult, leading to her joining a gang called The Fallen Angels for protection and resources, until she ultimatly betrayed them in order to spare the lives of civilians during a job. When the X-Men arrived to thwart the Angels, Tabitha joins them, having already been in the sights of the X-Men due to her destructive powers.
Playful
Tabitha is young and has been exposed to just how ugly life can get. She doesn't dwell on it, and her way of overcoming it is having fun with whatever she is doing.
Self-Destructive
Abandoned by her mother, beaten by her father, if she had to be honest with herself (and she usually isn't), Tabitha would admit that she doesn't have a very high opinion of herself. She typically makes bad choices, almost as if seeking punishment, as if she doesn't deserve a good life.
Optimistic
Things can only get better, right? Tabitha is never looking for the bad in people. She prefers to think that the ugliness is behind her, so she can focus on the sweet life.
Motivation
On the surface, Boom Boom is driven by impulse and juvenile passions. Under the surface is the desire to protect those who are helpless and vulnerable, as she was as a child, and keep them safe from predators.
Goals
Tabitha's goals are what most of Xavier's students fight for: a day when mutants and humans live together in peace. And also to be fabulous while doing so. Maybe also to cause a few explosions along the way.
The Boom
Tabitha can psionically create balls of volatile energy that range from small to giant scales. When fully charged, they explode with power that varies according to their size. Small, pellet-sized bombs can scare people off or destroy locks, like strong firecrackers. Beachball-sized explosives can fell large trees, destroy vehicles, or blow open a bank vault. She is capable of absorbing the energy from her own explosions, keeping her safe from them. When focusing, she can create energy blasts, again ranging from small to large, control her explosive 'bombs' with her mind, delay when they will explode, launch (rather than throw) them, or have them hover around her as a sort of proximity protection. Her effective fighting range is about fifty yards, after which she begins to become much less accurate.
…Though 'almost' totally counts in hand grenades. (And horse shoes.)
Fashion Sense
She got it.
X-Men
She's one of them. Go team!
Xavier Institute
Been there, done that. School sucks. Danger Room's awesome.
Petty Crime
Tabitha learned how to make a living on the streets as a kid. She's an adept (though not world-class) shop-lifter, vandal, pick-pocket, and thief.
Agility
She's no Olympic athlete, but Tabitha has had regimented training and is usually skilled enough to get herself out of harm's way, or deliver a punch or explosive blast where it needs to go. She won't win any hand-to-hand tournaments, but that's mostly because blowing up your opponent is frowned upon.
A Little Bit of Bimbo
Tabitha is kind of dumb, she's not very academically-inclined or strategy-oriented. The solution to not being able to solve a problem with explosions is usually more explosions. She doesn't think before she acts or opens her mouth, and she's prone to running into trouble.
Friendly Fire
Tabitha can only protect herself from her explosions. Anyone else, friend or foe, caught in the blasts is getting sizzled, which can be a severe detriment when every attack you make has 'splash damage'.
