In the beginning, Dazzler's life was good. She was an up and coming pop star who just released her first album and it was a sensational hit. A smashing hit, even, and that's when disaster struck.
The being known as Apocalypse struck out against the various nations of Earth and conquered North America. When these strikes started to occur, Alison's father (who was still a Judge in this particular reality) looked for someone to save his daughter and get her to safety.
Her savior turned out to be a disguised Mystique and Dazzler's father paid her to take Alison out of the country. Mystique did just that and got Alison to safety and while she was going to simply drop Alison off in some little strange town, she didn't, not after she discovered that Alison was a mutant.
Once that discovery was made, Mystique took Alison to Magneto for training to become the next in line to battle Apocalypse's force. While most of the mutants took their training seriously, Ali did not. She was still in disbelief that the world was so changed - she still tried to cling to her pop-star status, as well as her more selfish ways. It was only during an attack on the X-Men HQ that Alison's world and mindset would finally change.
It was during this battle that Alison would see Scarlet Witch die in defense of the mutants found within the HQ. Seeing her die at the hands of one of Apocalypse's people crystallized something within Alison and she realized then and there, that she could no longer be selfish and that it was time to grow up.
Years passed and Alison trained hard. Eventually she found herself becoming one of Magneto's X-Men and when she started to join battles, she finally realized she would truly have to give up her dream of becoming a singer.
As such, the young woman picked up the terrible habit of smoking. People tried to stop her or convince her not to do it, but she mostly ignored them, or offered a waspish reply back about what she was doing.
During this time, Dazzler saw a lot of action. She fought for freedom, for her fellow mutants and against her fellow mutants, depending on what side they were upon. The once happy-go-lucky young girl turned into something more sarcastic and pessimistic, as she saw friends die before her. Even so, that still didn't stop her from fighting the good fight. Even when her attitude was at it's lowest point, there was still that spark deep within her heart that somehow, someway, they would be able to take back the world and return it to its formal glory.
Eventually, it came to light that their particular reality wasn't (in some sense) true. A man by the name of Bishop was found and it was during this time that Magneto and a few of his X-Men of Earth 295 realized that their reality was an offshoot from the mainstream reality.
From this, Magneto hatched a plan to restore the reality back to the true reality (616), which would hopefully ensure Age of Apocalypse would never result.
The final assault was started and while many things went wrong and people died, other things went extremely right, and Apocalypse was defeated. Strangely, their reality was likewise saved, thanks to the timely intervention of Jean Grey and The Phoenix Force and Earth-295 remained.
At this point, Dazzler and the others moved to start restoring the world and making it safe for both Humans and Mutants.
And that, is where everything would once again change.
While Earth-295 continued to rebuild, the multi-universe was soon shattered (again) as the Secret Wars took place. For Dazzler, she was one of the A-Force members within the Battlworld known as Arcadia. Eventually, like everything, the Battleworlds and the schisms were brought down and Earth-616 became whole once again.
Well, as whole as it could be. Unknown to the regular population, some people who returned were not the same. Dazzler, so happens to be one of those 'displaced' heroes.
When she awoke within the 616 reality, Dazzler found herself confused. At first, she truly thought a rogue telepath was messing with her mind, her perception of reality, but slowly, Dazzler soon came to the realization that somehow, someway, she was no longer in the right 'world'.
Currently, the blonde 'singer' is trying to determine just how much has changed and also figure out just what she's going to do.
In her own world, Dazzler's goals were simply defeating Apocalypse (which they did) and then rebuilding the world to greatness - for both humans and mutants. Now that Dazzler has awoken in this new world (616) her goals are scattered. For now, she has no idea what she wants to do, beyond figure out just where and when she is. Once she settles into this world, her goals will eventually coalesce into making sure this world never turns into AoA and also, just maybe, trying to become more of the singer she wanted to be, before life took a turn for the worst in AoA.
The main motivation in Dazzler's life was seeing someone die to protect and save her (and others). Seeing Scarlet Witch die before her, caused Dazzler to have a drastic shift in her attitude and allowed her to grow up and become much more mature. It also cemented the fact that Dazzler would always be a hero. She will always be willing to fight for the side of light, versus evil, and she will always help anyone in need.
While Dazzler is not the same as the original Earth-616 Dazzler, they do share one thing in common - their good heart. Even if this particular Dazzler is a bit more rough around the edges, a bit more sarcastic, her heart is still there for the people. She will always help those in need, she will always try to look towards the brighter things in life and she will always be the light in the darkest of tunnels.
Alison grew up in a world full of war and death, as such, she's grown slightly sarcastic as a way to deflect some of the horror she's seen. Her sarcastic streak is gentle compared to some, but when she's stressed, surprised, or under pressure, her witty comebacks will start flying from her lips.
Whether in this world or her home world, Ali always had to be wary or cautious of new or unknown people. They could have been spies, or bad guys, or for this world completely different and not who she remembers them to be. As such, her sparkling personality isn't always first seen when she meets new or previously 'known' people of this world.
No matter what incarnation is around, Dazzler will always be an extrovert. This means when she's around people she's happy, it gives her energy, revitalizes her, in fact. The only times she'd like to be left alone is when she's possibly struggling with bad memories, nightmares, or those few days she actually needs some down time or alone time.
Alison Blaire has the ability to absorb a variety of sounds sources (both in the audible and inaudible range) and convert it into photon or light based energy. This light based energy can then be used in various offensive and defensive light based attacks, tricks, displays. Along with these offensive and defensive ways, her light based powers can likewise be totally used in fun ways, IE: light shows. In the beginning Dazzler could only store a small amount of power within her body, but thanks to time, practice and training, she can now store quite a bit of energy that can be used when no other sound is available for her to absorb. On a side note, Ali does have the ability to release all of her stored up energy in one sonic potentially deafening burst. If she does do this, that will cause an immediate depletion of all her stored power and leave her drained and needing an immediate source of new sound to convert into energy.
Dazzler's main offensive attack is the ability to produce beams of lights, or lasers. While Ali can produce these lasers from just about anywhere - her eyes, her hands, her whole body, for instance, she typically shoots them from her fingers. She'll typically 'fire' them from her index finger, with her thumb extended upward, in a typical 'gun' hand-gesture. Dazzler can also vary the strength, size and even shape and/or circumference of the lasers. Currently, Ali's lasers are capable of piercing/burning through her world Sentinels, so it's a safe bet that the majority of every day metals would be easy for Alison to pierce through and through. Lastly, depending on the strength of the laser that Ali is producing, will determine how much of her stored energy will be used, should she have no external sound being absorbed and converted. Lighter powered lasers, the kind that burn through wood, or grass, or dirt, would be easier to produce and maintain for longer periods of time, before she depletes her stores versus her stronger lasers.
Much like her lasers, Dazzler is able to release a light or a photon based blast that has a concussive force/punch behind it. She typically releases these blasts from her hands, but she can literally release it from anywhere upon her body. These blasts can be strong enough to knock a person, or a small group of people away from her, or can be just as heavy-hitting like her more focused lasers. And much like her lasers depending on how strong she makes the blast will determine how much it depletes her stores, should there be no other sound around her to convert to energy.
Dazzler's main defensive power stunt is the ability to protect herself and others with a shield compromised of laser-esque light. This shield is best used against projectile based attacks, or similar energy based attacks. Her shields can typically vaporize incoming bullets with ease and deflect energy based attacks equal to the strength of the shield. With these shields Dazzler can determine just how strong the shield is when deployed and can strengthen and weaken it as needed. She can hold her shield for quite some time before her powers are depleted, should she not have a viable source of sound to continuously recharge her powers. Of course, like anything, her shields can be overwhelmed which would cause them to shatter. This could be done by vaporizing dozens upon dozens of bullets at once, or deflecting a powerful based energy attack, or simply waiting for Ali to burn through her stores energy reserves in the absence of convertible sound.
From Dazzler's powers she is quite immune to sound based attacks, as she absorbs the energy from said attacks. The inner workings of her ears are likewise protected from going deaf from any harmful decibel ranges. As for light based attacks, her eyes are much like her ears, harden against any bright, or strobing effects of light, which allows her to continue to fight even when others are disorientated. As for other light based attacks, while they can still hurt her body, she does have a slightly higher constitution when it comes to resisting photonic based attacks.
While Dazzler definitely relies upon her lasers and shields, in reality, she has a whole host of 'tricks' that she can pull off with her light based powers.
Blinding Burst: Dazzler can use her powers to create a blinding burst of light or something she's dubbed the 'dazzle burst'. This is typically used to disorientate her would-be attackers, or to allow her to make a quick escape, if needed. She can release this burst from her whole body, or just her eyes, or really any part of herself if need be. The brightness can vary with this blinding burst, from a weak flash to something that's thousands of watts bright. The larger output of energy the harder it is for Dazzler to maintain. At full capacity, Dazzler can only maintain the blinding burst for several seconds, before her stored powers are depleted. If she continues to try to dazzle burst people without any recharging happening simultaneously then Dazzler would likely fall unconscious as she would overtax her system.
Light Fog: Dazzler has adapted her powers to afford her several more defensive light based tricks. One of the main tricks that she can use is what she's called light fog, or light mist. The light fog she creates basically casts the area in patches of light, that resembles fog and which could then obscure the person by refracting light away from their shape and blurring their silhouette.
Light Strobes: Another trick that Dazzler has adopted is causing lights to rapidly cycle through various brightness and colors which would then cause disorientation for people, as it affects their equilibrium. This balance upset only lasts for as long as she continues to keep the strobing lights going. Once she stops the effect, a person would regain their senses in a matter of seconds. Along with the disorientation and balance upset trick, is one that's even stronger, which could potentially knock out the person or people that she's directing her discordant, chaotic lights at. Depending on the constitution of a person, they could awake in a manner of minutes, or in an hour or two.
Light Shows: While Dazzler can definitely use her powers to harm, she can use them for more simple things - entertainment in the form of light shows. These light shows are usually not harmful to anyone as they are simply there for the prettiness of it all. Anything Ali can think of to create out of her photon based powers, she can basically do. White lights? Yup! Multi-colored lights? Check! Strobe Action lights? You betcha! Squiggles, diamonds, spherical, shaped lights? Yessir! She can also make herself glow in a variety of colors should she wish to, as well as denoting which body part glows. Full body, just the face, her arms, just her hands, etc. These particular tricks can be done for several hours non-stop, before Ali would need to rest and re-charge. If she's supplied by a constant flow of sound (like at her concerts) then she'd not need to recharge at all as the constant source of sound would keep her recharged.
Sparklies: When Ali tends to get SUPER excited or SUPER happy she unconsciously produces little sparkles which will appear and hover all around her. This is an almost unconscious use of her powers on her part, but she can control it when she needs to be and is aware that situation calls for no active powers. Lastly, these have no offensive or defensive capabilities. They're just there to show she's in a very good mood.
Ali has the ability to construct holograms in the 2D and 3D variety. These holograms can be both solid or insubstantial holograms. The insubstantial holograms are less taxing than the solid holograms. Likewise 2D holograms are less taxing than 3D holograms. Smaller holograms are much easier for Dazzler to maintain versus larger holograms. For example a hologram of a puppy she could hold for hours, a hologram of an average male would be less. When you factor in the level of detail for the hologram that will likewise determine how long she can hold the hologram together. Simple shapes are easy, more complex shapes like a person's features, definitely harder. When Dazzler does use her holograms, she'll primarily go with the insubstantial version versus the solid, as the solid versions of complex holograms tax her energies fairly quickly. They also tend to give her a headache, the longer she has to hold them. Generally the solid versions of holograms can be held for an hour or two, any longer and Ali would have a reaction headache from over-taxing herself. The most complex hologram that Dazzler can currently do is one based off of a Sentinel. This is a solid 3D hologram that has fooled people in believing it's a real sentinel, even when they attack and cause 'damage' on the Sentinel. Dazzler was able to even include the circuits beneath the 'damaged' areas for realism. Ali was able to hold this 3D hologram for fifteen to twenty minutes, before she had to shut it down from how taxing it was on her. On a side note, Ali's skills with her holograms are enough that they could fool people, as well as cameras or other surveillance equipment. Currently, Ali's range for her holograms is line of sight. If she can't see where she needs to manifest her hologram, she can't do it.
Ali can make her holograms solid to the touch, this is typically what she calls a hard light construct. Along with these solid holograms, Ali is also capable of creating other hard light constructs, primarily in the form of handheld weapons, or even smaller more personal shields. She could even branch out to wearing hard light armor, but she has yet to try doing that, or even thinking of it. Again, much like her solid holograms, hard light constructs are much more taxing on her body and energy reserves. Usually any hard light weaponry she creates is done only during the dire life-death situations, especially if she has no sound to keep her re-charged. On a side note, these hard light constructs can be shattered, whether it's from taking the brunt of a superhuman concussive attack, or shattering from a lack of stored energy on Dazzler's part.
While Dazzler is definitely NOT of this particular universe, or Earth, she is Dazzler and as such, she'll have access to Dazzler's minor wealth, her agents and even any musical contracts that the previous Dazzler had. This also includes her personal property (apartment) as well as all her stages equipment, clothes, wigs, make-up and costumes. Let's also not forget those roller-skates, though one has to really wonder if this particular Dazzler can /even/ roller-skate.
While she doesn't know it yet, Dazzler will be able to call upon the X-Men of this particular realm. This would include having a place to stay at the Mansion, as well food, clothing, etc.
While Dazzler is currently unaware of this, she has family that's quite alive here. Her father, mother and grandmother are currently alive - she has a half sister as well, but there's definitely some love loss there. Eventually, when she becomes aware of her family she could reach out to them and connect, which could lead to them becoming an advantage for her.
Or the skills that comes with being a musician, even a fledgling one at that. While Ali's career was still only in its infancy when Apocalypse attacked, she still had acquired quite a bit of knowledge on how to be a successful pop star. She currently knows two instruments - the guitar and the piano and while she's not a virtuoso her talents with both are quite good. She also knows the basic set-up involved with stage equipment and musical instruments and also how to change costumes in only seconds. SECONDS. As she settles within this new life of hers, these skills will likely only grow and expand, as she takes up the mantle of the Dazzler of Earth-616.
Along with her musical skills with instruments, Ali is also the main songwriter for herself. She's what one might call a singer-lyricist, as she both sings, writes and composes her music. While she's still only a novice with these particular skills, practice will only help to polish both her song writing skills and composing. Finally, those that knew 616 Dazzler well, would easily be able to see that the current Dazzler seems to be lacking in some of the knowledge she used to have concerning music and musical theory.
Before Apocalypse struck, Dazzler's vocal range was incredible. Her voice was what one could call beautiful beyond words. Before her world was engulfed in war, Ali was being coached by a vocal coach, to help train and keep her singing voice strong. After Apocalypse struck, Dazzler dropped all notions of becoming a world famous pop star and as such, her vocal range is now much more limited. It also doesn't help that she picked up the nasty habit of smoking in her world, which has impacted her vocal range. If she were to stop smoking and continue to practice she would be able to obtain some of her range back, but it'll never be the same as Earth-616 Dazzler. Lastly, along with keeping her voice strong, etc, Dazzler also learned how to breathe effectively while singing and how to keep notes extended.
Living in a war torn world Ali learned basic field first aid. This means she can splint bones, suture shallow gashes, give a person CPR, or establish whether they're alive or dead. Her skills are similar to an EMTs, though definitely not as good with establishing IVs in high stress situations.
Going hand in hand with Dazzler's first aid skill, she's also learned how to live in rough conditions. This means foraging for food, for water, for basic necessities of life. Also this means covering her tracks, hiding any temporary shelter, and starting fires/putting them out as needed. Her scavenging skills are really great in the forested areas, but even better in an urban setting, as there were many ruined cities they used for impromptu hideouts.
Ali's a fighter. She is a superb fighter with or without her powers. She had to be, they were at war with some of Apocalypse's most elite soldiers, as well as the fodder that he through at them daily. As such, her fighting style is a mishmash of brawling and martial-arts, tossed liberally with her power stunts. Regular street thugs of 616 will likely not be able to overcome her, not without sufficient numbers. Mutants and skilled fighters are a different story, as it depends on their level of skill against hers and if they're better than her … Well, she'd be beaten just like anyone else.
Apocalypse crushed Dazzler's dreams of ever becoming a famous rock/pop star. As such, when she realized that her dream was no more, she started to smoke. What was a voice good for when there was nothing to sing about? As such, Dazzler's vocal range is now hampered from the damage of those years of smoking she has under her belt. If she stopped today she would regain some of her vocal range, but it'll never be the same as the Dazzler originally from 616. From this, Dazzler could find her 'career' ending even sooner than she ever thought possible.
Dazzler's power are whole-heartedly dependent upon sound. Without some form of noise, Dazzler's powers would quickly drain what reserves she has held in her body, which for all intents and purposes, would leave her powerless. Her own voice, by itself, cannot be used to give her a steady stream of power to pull from - not unless it's played back to her over a sound system.
Ali is confused. Very confused. This is not her world, not her place and people are assuming they know her. She has no knowledge of how her other self lived in this world and it shows to some extend. This could be missed cues from people, or missed opportunities thanks to all the missing puzzle pieces she has. Along with this, Ali will likely find it hard to acclimate to a 'peaceful' seeming world, as well as her B-List success. All in all, this will likely be an incredibly stressful time for the young woman as she tries to figure out just what's going on.
While the 616-Dazzler didn't really talk much about this particular fact, there was several instances where she somehow survived dying. This particular fact is a complete unknown to the current Dazzler and it should also be noted that she doesn't have the same immortality issue that the previous Dazzler does.
Papar-what? In Dazzler's world there was no such thing. NO SUCH THING. As such, when Dazzler finds her swamped by some of the old Dazzler's more faithful paparazzi, she'll find it a strange thing indeed. In fact, there will likely be some faux pas on Dazzler's part, as she acclimated to this new part of her life - which all means some form of bad press for the starlette.
Dazzler saw a lot of people die, some friends and even family, as such she has quite a bit of guilt from surviving it all. This also rolls up into some form of post traumatic stress, as well, thanks to all the time she spent on horrific battlefield conditions. As such, Dazzler can sometimes have nightmares and flashbacks and let's not forget some form of depression. The majority of the time she tries hard not to let it be seen, but there will be definite times that it'll taint her mood, or possibly cause her to lash out at friends and family.
She has enemies, many enemies, but here on Earth 616 she has even more. All the enemies the other Dazzler acquired both in her solo career and as part of the X-Men will be gunning for the current Dazzler - simply, because they don't realize she's different. As such, Dazzler will have to tread lightly as she has no clue who her real enemies might be.
This particular Dazzler is unaware of a few power stunts the current Dazzler does. Those stunts are flight and her blasts of ultra-violet radiation. If someone were able to show her/teach her how to do these things, she'd likely learn how, but it currently she is unaware of these two stunts of 'hers'.
Dazzler has just arrived to Earth-616 from Earth-295 (AoA).
