Neena was the result of cutting-edge genetic engineering in 1982, the primary result of Project Armageddon, at an 'off the books' Government-run facility which was hidden deep within the Florida Everglades. She had one biological parent, Beatrice, whom was also albino. Her first name was the only thing her mother could leave her with. Her last name came from Milo Thurman, the chief geneticist at the facility. The tattoo around her left eye was given soon after birth, a fail-safe to make it almost impossible for her to ever hide her face should she get loose from the Project. This tattoo, along with her white skin, quickly led to her 'Domino' nickname. While mutant genes were spliced into her genetic makeup it was unknown if or how they might manifest.
Unlike some other Government sanctioned living weapon programs, Armageddon had prioritized mutant genome experimentation to create an advanced mutant soldier rather than creating a living machine which they could then reprogram. Her life may have been rough but rarely could it have been considered to be a nightmare.
Designed to be the 'perfect weapon,' she was subject to all manner of advanced combat and tactics training from the very beginning. This included personal instruction from various experts, simulation use, and practice runs around the facility. Questionable signs of an activated mutant gene began to surface but they were almost impossible to track, test, or document. This in turn became the first nail in Armageddon's coffin.
After nearly thirty years of effort and with nothing deemed satisfactory to show for it Project Armageddon loses all funding. Staff are reassigned and the base is permanently locked and shut down with all connected projects sealed within. Her next five years are spent in cryostasis, buried and forgotten with the rest of the facility. Top Brass considered her too unstable for practical use yet too costly to terminate.
While Project Armageddon doesn't officially exist, enough money can change any situation. Florida's harsh climate quickly found its way inside the facility and ruptured hazardous containment cells, resulting in a growing ecological hazard. The Government, keen to wash their hands of the situation and disavow any knowledge of its existence, soon puts the entire grounds up for private auction.
Why was the facility abandoned? Why was she left behind? Is there something much bigger in the works which she doesn't know about? What happens if anyone discovers her? Is any of this just another test? None of this makes any sense! What if, why was, how come, when did, who had…
If Project Armageddon as a whole could be uncovered then those whom had been responsible for it surely must not be buried too deeply..right? And here she is with several dozen axes to grind. Given any opportunity she would love nothing more than to hunt down every last name associated with the Project and repay them all in ways which the Government won't ever be able to cover up.
Just go away, already. Not only does she prefer it, it'll be safer for everyone and less of a headache for her. Fewer liabilities.
She's left to deal with her new life with little more than a laundry list of very unfriendly skillsets and plenty of anonymity. Her best bet is to bring the pieces together and start somewhere where they'll do her more good than harm. It's not like she had been made for anything good, after all.
She's got a lot of anger and really good aim. Why not cash in on that? They wanted a weapon, they'll have themselves a weapon. One that's working on her own agenda, for her own payout. Contract killing, theft, espionage, it'll foot the bills which will bring her closer to her ultimate goal for revenge.
The past is the past, long dead and left where it belongs. Memories are swept away the first chance she gets, her psyche remains a very dark and empty place.
After everything she had been put through she wound up being thrown into the freezer, completely written off. The only life she ever knew had been ripped up and pulled out from around her. Not only did she not seem to matter to anyone but she was also a weapon without a purpose. Her resentment toward the Government and Military is vast, always growing, and freely branching out into other areas of modern society. Screw the world.
Throughout her life there had been order, a very defined structure. Suddenly all of that structure is simply gone, washed away without a trace. Maybe it's her training, maybe it's purely psychological, but if nothing else exists to keep things in order then the responsibility must then fall upon her. Her life still needs order, darnitall.
When does it get worse? It's GOING to get worse, it always gets worse. She has no friends, the Project taught her well there. Everyone around her is either an obstacle or a means to an end. Use once then destroy.
Domino is the luckiest woman in the world, though the mutant power which generates this luck is so random that not even she can predict it. At best all she can do is throw herself into very stressful or dangerous situations in order to kick it into high gear. The rebound is that while she's reaping all of the benefits, everyone around her suffers some of the worst luck in history. Enemies, allies, complete strangers, it seems that no one is ever truly safe from the luck of the cosmic draw. This power can manifest at any time and for any reason, or no reason at all, allowing for highly improbable, though never truly impossible, outcomes. A winning lottery ticket, a perfectly timed traffic light, a critical hit, dropping a building onto an opponent, an enemy's equipment catastrophically failing, a timely distraction at a precise moment… While it may not always spare her from capture, injury, or worse, it somehow always finds the most beneficial path for her in the end. Just what that might be she doesn't know, though if she happens to know all of the variables in play then she can instinctively tell you exactly what the odds are going to be.
She can function equally well with either hand. While the original intent had been to keep her in the fight if she were to suffer injury or lose a limb, she's long since discovered that it also means she can use two weapons instead of one.
The ruins of Project Armageddon continue to hold many secrets and secured caches. When the doors closed many pieces of hardware were left behind, including the one woman whom may just be lucky enough to uncover them. Anything of truly significant value is probably long gone and anything left behind is likely outdated and in serious disrepair. Still, it's probably better than nothing. Who knows what that place is still hiding?
Thin and lightweight, her armor is designed to be concealable and highly mobile in exchange for heavier protection. It's capable of deflecting many types of edged weapons from bone to steel to ceramic, and anything shy of a Magnum or rifle bullet won't be able to punch its way through. This doesn't block injury resulting from impact, however.
Instinct and luck work in tandem to keep her within a state of flux, making her a very difficult person to read during a fight. This helps her to keep pace with the action even if her training isn't quite up to the task, though this may require taking some bigger risks as well. While she isn't faster than a bullet she is capable of figuring out where it's going to be so that she can be somewhere else.
Between genetic modification and training Neena's willpower has become very finely honed. ..So long as she doesn't get too angry. Okay, so it's not quite as sharp as it used to be but it's still pretty darn good.
Very few know about Domino. Many of Armageddon's notes have either been destroyed or locked away so deep that they may never be found. Officially, she doesn't exist. While she's not likely to remain in the shadows forever after the fall of the Project, this striking lack of any real information will keep most anyone wondering for decades to come. It would take a significant player (like S.H.I.E.L.D.) to uncover anything concrete about her origins.
She is a very talented athlete and an expert swimmer.
Identifying materials, setting charges, and detonating explodey things to good effect, she knows how it's done.
She has superb marksmanship skills and has an intimate understanding of hitting a moving object with another moving object, sometimes with another object or four in between. While some of her shots land purely due to her luck, quite often it's down to her training. She's pretty good at maintaining and upgrading various firearms, too.
She's borderline fluent in German, Russian, and Italian.
Blades, batons, fists and feet, sledgehammers, folding chairs, she'll find a way to make it work. She's not the strongest, fastest, or most skilled, but she's pretty darned good at landing her hits while avoiding the other guy's. She can fling a blade or dart pretty darn well, too.
When luck and avoidance don't get the job done, she's familiar enough with many security measures to be able to circumvent quite a few different types of systems. This knowledge may be somewhat out of date, however.
Part of her supplemental training had been focused on more subtle operations, covering skills such as infiltration, avoiding detection, shadowing a target, assassination, and discreetly disposing of evidence.
By no means is she the best survivalist but she knows enough to stay alive. This includes basic first-aid skills with whatever happens to be available.
She has an understanding of military and combat tactics which can sometimes give her the upper hand, though highly trained groups can still get the upper hand. Probably best not to let her lead, though.
People, vehicles, or animals, she knows a thing or three about following a trail.
She's best with ground vehicles and boats, though she's also received many hours of flight training via simulators. If necessary she is capable of doing some basic repairs on her own, as well.
Officially, Neena is property of the U.S. Government. A tactical military asset rather than a person. She has no legal identity nor any civil rights, she'll never be able to lead a normal life. Ownership of the Project may change hands, which in turn would make her someone else's problem. Legally there isn't anything she can do about it. Maybe no one would know, or care, but if push came to shove someone could use this against her.
She is the only patch-eyed albino woman in the world. For as lucky as she is at avoiding detection and capture, sooner or later her actions are going to catch up to her in a real bad way and that mark on her face is going to get some recognition.
Between her unique mutant ability and her warped mind there are moments where her actions are completely unpredictable and unprovoked, and she's not about to waste time working on her impulse control. Instinct runs this ship. If it means doing something which benefits her but hinders her nearest ally, well..too bad for them.
Being out of the loop for five years may not seem like a whole lot but in modern society a lot can happen in a short amount of time. She'll have a little catching up to do, if she has the patience for it.
Really, she's more weapon than person. She's crass, abrasive, not always the most subtle, and a far cry from any sort of social refinement. Less of a diamond in the rough and more like a slab of uranium ore, this one.
No real home, no previous assets or income, no family or friends… Either she needs to find someone willing to put up with her or she needs to start earning resources. Or both. Good thing there's always a demand for qualified mercenaries with nothing to lose.
