- Having lost her mother at a young age, and constantly moving from one school to another because of her father's job at nuclear power plants, Angelica never had the time to settle in anywhere or make friends. Her only constant friends were her grandmother who lived with the family, and her best friend in the whole world, her orange cat Pumpkin.
- At 13 years old Angelica's grandmother read her palm and told her that she possess exceptional talents, the likes of which very few possess. It made her happy, a rare feeling for Angelica. She was just about to start a new school, West Morris in New Jersey. As can be expected, being the new girl, she didn't have any friends and was an outsider.
- Besides being unliked as a new girl, Angelica had the mixed bad / good fortune of having Chuckie Belson — the school's stud — set his eyes on her. That immediately made her a hated enemy of Cassie, the most popular girl at school. This brought about quite a bit of bullying against Angelica.
As her grandma told her that people will be friendly if you give them a chance, she tried to join the girls who bullied her in the cafeteria, only to be laughed at again. This made her so angry, that for the first time her powers manifested, projecting microwave energy on her chocolate milk, causing its container to explode with the hot chocolate milk winding up flying directly at Mr. Slattery who proceeded to give her detention.
- While Mr. Slattery thought Angelica was trying to find new friend by pulling that stunt, the White Queen thought otherwise as this manifestation was traced by Multivac, and she instructed her subordinates to pay attention for the next manifestation so the Hellfire Club has a lock on the new mutant's location.
- Chuckie later caught on with Angelica and convinced her to sign up for the ice sculpting contest the school held, which displeased Cassie who overheard it. Chuckie constantly showing affection to Angelica made things gradually worse.
On the day of the contest, Cassie and her friends broke Angelica's statue to prevent her from winning. While gloating, they also explained to Angelica how she wasn't special and her grandma lied to her just to make her feel better. Furious, Angelica let out a burst of microwave energy that melted all of the ice sculptures.
- Afraid of what she had just done, Angelica used her cellphone to call home to ask her grandma what to do, but the phone metled in her hand as she held it. Her lack of control over her emerging powers this time alerted both Professor Xavier and the White Queen thanks to Cerebro and Multivac. Scared of how she melted the phone, Angelica ran back home only to find her grandma died of a heart attack.
- Angelica tried to tell her father how she's scared but he wouldn't listen to her, so she stopped holding back and let him see her glowing while the snow around her melted away. Her father was concerned his daughter is a mutie freak as he put it, and desperately tried to think of a way to help her. That's when Emma Frost made her presence in their house noted.
- Using her telepathy, Emma got her father to agree to let her meet with Angelica. She proceeded to win Angelica's trust by talking about the special mark on her palm, using telepathy again to learn all about the girl's interaction with her beloved grandma.
Just as Emma secured Bartholomew's consent to send his daughter to her school, and Angelica's consent to go there, Nightcrawler and Professor Xavier arrived on scene but having gotten there too late they gave up on a fight with the White Queen and went about their way.
- At age 14, in her first few month's at Emma Frost's Academy, Angelica was having a great time. She was learning how to ride a horse for instance, which was something she could never dream of in her regular life. Angelica's only concern was that she was being kept in isolation, never getting to see the other students.
To drive Angelica's desire to train hard, Emma Frost promised her she could join the Hellions if she perfected her abilities. The Hellions themselves were told that Angelica was assigned as the White Queen's personal body guard, planting the seeds of dislike, as they thought Angelica considered herself better than they are.
- Early assessment in the Hellions' training facilities pointed to Angelica's potential as one of the most powerful mutants in the world. Through induced illusions, Emma Frost trained Angelica to see the X-Men as evil people who want to harm Emma, Angelica, and the Hellions which Angelica really wanted to join. So as Emma helped Angelica develop her power and gain more control over them, she also learned to hate the X-Men and see them as enemies.
- When the Hellions gathered up to go see a movie together, Angelica declined the invitation when it was extended to her, as Ms. Frost did not allow her to leave school grounds as she was too dangerous without supervision. That just reassured the Hellions suspicions that Angelica thought that as Frost's favorite she's too good to hang out with them, and pushed Angelica further into solitude.
- Afer the initial rounds of tests and training session, Emma Frost gave Angelica the codename Firestar, and set the course for her to become the personal assassin of the Hellfire Club, and more specifically of the White Queen. Firestar was also given a golden bracelet that was actually a holographic inducer programmed to make her have nightmares and visions centered about how evil the X-Men are, and how they want to hurt her.
- A month later the school held a big dance, Empath was mocking Angelica for being too stuck up to show up, and she pleaded with Emma Frost to be allowed to go, dreaming to prove the Hellions wrong. Emma granted Angelica permission, and even picked a dress for her.
Meanwhile, the New Mutants also got permission from Xavier's faculty to attend the dance. Before the dance, all the horses was taken out of the school's stables for a horse show except for Butter Rum — Angelica's favorite horse — which made Angelica think Emma Frost was the kindest person in the world to be so considerate towards her.
During the dance, Sam Guthrie was pushed by Roberto Decosta to ask Angelica to dance, the two equally shy and clumsy, laughed by others, decided to take a stroll outside — guided by Emma Frost's telepathy. As they were getting along and warming up to one another, Sam moved in to kiss Angelica, which promptly got Angelica to hear a telepathic admonishment from Emma Frost about her carelessness.
Fearful she could hurt Sam, and unsettled that she disappointed Emma Frost, Angelica ran away from Sam into the stables where a fire broke out. Barely managing to get Butter Rum — her favorite horse — out of the stable, Angelica just got to witness the horse suddenly collapse and die.
Horrified, thinking she set the stable on fire and killed the horse with her microwave energy emissions, Angelica ran into the woods only to be found by Emma Frost, the only one who offered her comfort and understand that terrible night. Of course Angelica didn't know that it was Emma Frost who made sure to set the fire and kill the horse, further making Angelica think she is dangerous and must be kept on her own, with Emma Frost as the only person in the world to love and care for her.
- Sometime after the events at the dance, Thunderbird (original Thunderbird's brother, later taking the name Warpath) decided to get even for the death of his brother, he kidnapped Banshee and intended to lure the X-Men into a trap and killer Professor Xavier.
Roulette and Empath decided to join him, trying to score points with the White Queen for learning how to look after their own. To give them the edge, after witnessing the destruction from the dance, Empath used his powers to make Firestar think she is utterly in love with him, prodding her to believe him when he told her that the White Queen wanted her to join them on a super secret mission to attack the evil X-Men. Bringing Banshee to the Cheyenne Mountain, Firestar was unfamiliar to the X-Men and surprised them when she came out of nowhere to grab Colossus and fly away with him to take him out of the battle.
Colossus in the meantime saw too much of Illyana in the young Firestar and couldn't bring himself to kill her, attempts to reason with Firestar failed, but eventually Rogue came to the rescue, knocking Firestar out with a touch. From this, Rogue learned how Firestar has been manipulated by Empath. Once she regained consciousness, Firestar kept blaming herself for what happened, going as far as to wish she could die.
Professor Xavier offered Angelica to join the X-Men, but she refused, stating that despite her terrible classmates who bully her, she has to stay loyal to Emma Frost who is the kindest person she's ever known besides her father.
- At age 15, Firestar has grown much more proficient in the use of her powers. She had become faster, her aim became sharper, and she used her powers with more focus. She was getting a lot better at flight as well. But during one training session, the White Queen made Firestar see Professor Xavier attacking her while shouting derogatory remarks at her.
This froze her and she plummeted to the ground, stunned. Firestar explained she had met Professor Xavier and that he seemed a good person, so the White Queen lectured her on how looks can be deceiving, encouraging Firestar with how she expects her to be able to protect herself and those she cares about — which just so happened to be the White Queen herself.
- As a reward for her progress, Angelica started to receive regular dance classes in the Academy, but even there she was not safe from bullying. One day when called to perform infront of the class, Roulette throw a bad luck disc causing Angelica to trip and fall. Empath then proceeded to use his powers to make the teacher absolutely furious at Angelica.
This time, however, when getting chastised infront of the entire class, Angelica knew that Empath must have had a hand in this, her furious anger made her release too much heat, activating the sprinklers. For the incident, Angelica was summoned to Emma's office for reprimand, but she also received a gift to ease her suffering, a trip home to New Jersey with her body guard, Randal.
- The night before her trip to New Jersey, Angelica suffered from nightmares where she saw Nightcrawler and Wolverine of the X-Men beating and slashing her to death. Waking up in horror, crying, Emma Frost was there to comfort her. She was now beginning to doubt the friendly faces she saw when she met the X-Men in real life and started to worry they actually want her dead.
- When she arrived back home in New Jersey, Angelica snuggled up with her cat Pumpkin, which she missed terribly, but her father snatched the cat away chastising the girl about how dangerous she is to their pet. All of the ordeals she suffered at the Academy under Emma Frost's orchestration erupted at that moment as Angelica slapped her father's hand when he tried to comfort her, she ran to her room and locked the door, not wanting to see him again. Randal saw the visit wasn't going to be a good one and arranged for him and Angelica to return to the Academy the following day.
- At the airport Randal was called to the phone, where Hellfire Club personnel detained him while another Hellfire Club agent created an incident with Angelica, running into her and blaming her for not looking where she's going. The man then proceeded to blame Angelica for being a mutant and a crowd of people gathered around her, spouting hate all about her and beating her father for trying to protect her.
When Angelica still didn't respond, one of the thugs pulled out a gun and shot at her, but Angelica melted the bullets. Next the thug aimed at her father, and finally Angelica made a direct strike against a human target, just as the White Queen wanted.
While the ordeal was harsh on Angelica, she came to respect and appreciate the hard training sessions with the White Queen, realizing that was what saved her and her father's life in the airport — unaware it was all once again arranged by the White Queen who had settled on using Firestar to kill Selene.
- At age 16 having gone more training and further honed her skills, Angelica got to experience an assassination attempt on Emma Frost's life; a bullet nearly hit Emma when she dove on top of Angelica to keep the girl safe. With guards rushing into the room, Emma revealed to Angelica that in reading the mind of the assassin she discovered the Black Queen — Selene — was the woman who wanted to have her killed. Nevermind that Emma planned it all, Angelica now believed she owed her life to Emma Frost on top of everything, and started to develop real hatred for the Black Queen, going as far as to swear she will kill her.
- In a training session following the assassination attempt, Emma gave Firestar a new mask to add to her costume, and invited her to join her to a formal ball in New York City. Randal — Angelica's bodyguard — found this turn of event suspicious and having grown fond of the girl tried to learn what's about to transpire.
Getting one of his buddies from operations drunk, he learned that the White Queen intends to use Firestar to assassinate the Black Queen. He intend to intervene, knowing Firestar doesn't stand a chance, but Emma read his mind and had him imprisoned. The morning after, Angelica was told that the Black Queen has killed Randal, her only friend in the world aside from Emma Frost. Now Angelica wanted to kill the Black Queen more than ever.
What Firestar didn't know, was that it actually was Emma Frost, the White Queen, who had killed Randal to ensure Angelica's loyalty with a final deed. Blaming the death on Selene, the Black Queen, all but guaranteed that Firestar will strike at her intended target.
- Emma has done all the planning, she was going to take Firestar as her special guest to a gathering of the Inner Circle at a special Hellfire Club ball. The idea was to use Firestar as an example for how successful her Hellions program was at her Academy.
What the other Inner Circle members didn't know, was that Firestar's demonstration would be at the expense of the Black Queen, Selene. While Firestar was supposed to impress the Inner Circle with her command of her powers, the White Queen had asked her to incinerate the Black Queen, burn her to the ground for trying to assassinate the White Queen and to avenge the death of Randal.
- Keeping to Emma's side while the ball lasted, this was Angelica's first experience of a royal ball just like in the movies. She was mesmerized, until her big moment came up. The White Queen announced her protege will perform a feat, and with all eyes on her, Angelica flamed up, burning her ball gown and revealing the Firestar costume underneath. But the crowd was stunned into silence by her next feat, a focused beam of that incinerated the Black Queen. Emma and Angelica had their revenge on Selene.
Or so it seemed, because Selene actually used her magic to give everyone the illusion that she died while she whisked herself away to safety, playing dead to catch the White Queen off guard for a revenge of her own.
As is the manner of the Inner Circle, Emma was respected for her savvy move, and was congratulated on the performance of Firestar, who had been officially named the White Queen's Personal Assassin.
* From here on out the White Queen and Firestar had quite a few adventures, whether in the politics of the Inner Circle, or warding off attempts on Emma, but at the greatest adventure of all proved to be the Secret Wars.
- By the end of the Secret Wars, Firestar found herself a stranger in a strange place. A lot was similar, but a lot was different, unnervingly wrong. She was in a new world, with people who claimed to know her that she didn't know, and people that she knew, that didn't quite know her. Everything was different, and she was on the lookout for Emma Frost, to see if her White Queen was at least the same, her savior, her mentor, the one who made her Firestar.
Growing up a perennial outcast, Angelica was constantly bullied and picked on by other kids in whatever school she's been to at any given time. This has put her in a position to sympathize with all who suffer hardships on different levels. She deeply cares for others, and will do everything in her power to help everyone who could use being helped. She will go out of her way to help, even if at times it means to get distracted from an objective. She cares for people first and foremost, everything else comes after.
Having been constantly bullied in her life, and later on kept in solitude at the Emma Frost's Academy, Angelica isn't quite accustomed to being around people in a friendly capacity. She is used to being bullied, being ignored, being mocked, and growing up in such a constant state of loneliness has made her a shy and introverted person. In her short time as the White Queen's personal assassin, she started to get a little bit more comfortable, thanks to finally having some kind of status in her life, but she still tends to get all awkward and nervous when it comes to interacting with people she never met before. Angelica will very rarely be the one to start a conversation with people she doesn't know.
After being manipulated by the White Queen constantly and by Empath occasionally during her stay at Emma Frost's Academy, Angelica has become a very mistrusting person. It takes something special for a person to gain her trust, she is perhaps a bit paranoidic in constantly casting shadow of doubt at people who try to get close to her or tell her what to do. Ironically, the person she trusts most is Emma Frost, the White Queen, the very woman who has been manipulating and twisting her more than anyone else.
While she was a relatively timid child who was easily pushed around early on, being able to have her revenge on Selene, the Black Queen, for the assassination attempt on Emma and the murder of Randal, has taught Angelica she can be strong. She was there, infront of the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club, those very people who considered her mentor, the White Queen their peer, and she was able to kill one of them (for lack of better knowledge). This is about as strong as Firestar had ever acted. Emma wasn't lying to her, she had powers, she was experienced in using them, and she was strong. Never again will anyone bully Firestar. At least that was her resolve. If something is in her way, she will never back down, she will do all in her power to overcome it. She will not let a louder voice drown out her own voice, she will have her say.
It really is a shame that Emma Frost beat Charles Xavier in recruiting Angelica to her school, because at heart, Angelica is the true definition of a hero. She will stand up for the weak, do what's right regardless of what the law or her own objectives say, and will generally seek to help those in need. She believes that people who have been given the gift of special powers, have a responsibility to use them to do good for those around them. That said, it was Emma Frost who first recruited Angelica Jones, and she has been manipulating and twisting her life since then. Angelica isn't even aware that the saintly woman she considers her mentor to be, has been leading her on unwittingly on a spiral descent into villainy. She had no clue about the true function of the Innner Circle of The Hellfire Club. She only knew it was a club that fought for mutant kind. At least that's how Emma presented it to her. While Angelica's heart is still at the core virtuous, the White Queen had her personal assassin do some very unheroic tasks for her, all with good explanation, all somehow for the better good. Emma Frost wore pristine white, surely she would never tell a lie.
There is one quality that Angelica developed during her stay at Emma Frost's Academy that actually makes her stronger. Throughout her time at the Academy, the White Queen tried to corrupt Angelica and make her into the perfect assassin. Slowly but surely chipping at her inability to hurt others, and developing a capacity for unbridled fury when others hurt those Angelica cares about. It took cunning, staging, manipulation and some of Emma's telepathy, but in the end she had Firestar, her personal assassin, killing those the White Queen decreed must be eliminated. When someone wrongs Angelica, there will be hell to pay, and they better hope not to cross paths with her. She is still ultimately a good person, and would avoid killing unless it was necessary, but she's not beyond petty things such as burning someone's apartment.
Angelica's motivation is the drive to believe in herself, and use her powers to prove she is the special person her grandma once told her she was. She will not be bullied, but she will not allow the bullying of others either. While she does serve as the White Queen's personal assassin, or rather bodyguard as Emma put it to Angelica, she is not inherently evil. Quite the contrary, Angelica is a good person and she strives to be a force for good. This is why it's so tragic she wound up ensnared and slowly but surely corrupted by the White Queen of the Hellfire Club. Because while she believes she is following her own motivation on a heroic path, serving the saintly Emma Frost and helping mutant kind all over, she actually wound up serving a nefarious woman and helping her achieve her selfish goals.
Fully enraptured by her run of good fortune, coming from a shattered childhood, weak will and being a victim, to becoming Emma Frost's personal assistant. Well, it's more a personal assassin, but not let anyone tell her that. She believes Emma Frost has been the single positive factor that changed her life from a dead-end, into a spring of hope for a better future. She gave her a voice, gave her strength, and as a result it is Angelica's goal to serve Emma to the best of her abilities so she could repay her mentor. Angelica understands the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle is a secret group of people who fight to better mutant kind. She believes her White Queen is the best individual out of the Inner Circle, and if she does her best, everything will turn out for the best.
While Firestar can redirect and manipulate the microwave radiation she absorbs (Microwave Manipulation), she is also able to generate her own microwave energy in various forms, as described in the powers Microwave Blast and Microwave Aura. While in Earth atmosphere, Firestar tends to limit the use of her powers for fear of hurting the environment or killing people. It would take a very devious person, or someone who directly manipulated or abused Firestar to get her to unleash her powers at near top capacity. Such a person may or may not be Emma Frost.
Firestar constantly absorbs ambient microwave radiation, there's no shortage of microwave radiation for her to absorb thanks to human technology, but her body is so attuned to absorbing this radiation, that she is also constantly absorbing microwave radiation from satellites, stars and the cosmic microwave background radiation. Therefore in the environment of space, her powers become much stronger. But even within Earth's atmosphere, there's never a shortage of microwave radiation for Firestar to absorb.
As a beacon of microwave energy, constantly absorbing and emitting it even in day to day activities, not being an ability she can turn off, Angelica is immune to the devastating effects prolonged exposure to such radiation can have on a human body. As a mutant, her body is physiologically made for her power, which makes her immune to its effects (in other words, none of the 616 cancer plot which I still resent, ask me if you're up for a rant). However, she still has concern for those she loves, and tends to keep away from being too long in the company of others. While she can control the levels at which her body releases microwave emissions, her conditioning by the White Queen made her doubt herself and fear hurting others she loves. It is something she is learning to overcome, now that she's graduated the Academy and attained a coveted position at the White Queen's side.
While she discovered her powers as an uncertain 13 year old with no control, Angelica had since grown and received arduous training under the tutelage of Emma Frost about the use and control of her powers amongst other things. Angelica now understands that she constantly absorbs microwave radiation (Microwave Energy Absorption), as well as generate it (Microwave Energy Generation) and then can focus and redirect it into many different applications. She can release it as an offensive projectile (Microwave Blast), she can form thrust power for flight (Microwave Emision Flight), generate intense heat (Microwave Emission Heat) and she can protect herself with a microwave aura that using her powers generates (Microwave Aura).
For a teenager, Firestar shows great control of her powers, though no doubt there's a lot more she could accomplish as she grows up and further approaches her potential, with many more uses she could potentially learn, discover, or develop. For now she has her training with the White Queen as a solid and most adequate base to work with. While the White Queen's analysis suggests Firestar could become one of the strongest mutants in the world, it remains to be seen. With the White Queen's guidance, Firestar constantly trains and hones her powers, learning new applications and increasing her focus and ability all the time. All to better serve Emma of course.
While the blasts created by her powers seem to be fire based, they are in fact intense burning microwaves, which she can focus either to make a target burst in flames, explode, or even melt. The heat her microwave produces can melt thick red-brick walls, as she first did when someone attempted to blackmail her, and she burned a hole through a wall of his penthouse. The one time she used her powers without limiting herself, she completely destroyed a building of one of Emma's business rivals, so she has a very highly destructive potential when she chooses to unleash her powers.
By redirecting her microwave energies to create downward thrusts, Firestar can propel herself with great force in upward motion into the air. Her unique method of flight allows Firestar to perform unexpected maneuvers as she can thrust herself on a whim at different direction which an opponent may not expect. Her flight works much in the same way as that of the Human Torch and Sunfire. While she cannot match Nova's speed, she is far more agile in flight than Cannonball. Using her thrust power she is able to carry incredible weights with her, as she's shown by taking Colossus into the air while the Hellions attacked the X-Men — of course she was lucky Colossus didn't want to hurt her while she carried him, but she has the capacity to do that. Thanks to extensive training with the White Queen, Firestar is something of a markswoman when it comes to hitting targets with her plasma blasts while in midflight, even when taking evasive maneuvers.
This is an offensive application of Firestar's microwave energy which she learned from the White Queen. It can be as destructive as raw microwave energy focused as a thick beam of heat, a projectile concussive plasma bolt, or a precise pinpointed thin ray of microwave that can be used much like a laser cutter.
When unleashing massive bursts of heat, or massive beams that shear through steel plating Firestar feels a physical exhaustion as it is quite taxing. After a feat of such nature, Firestar would need rest and absorbing more microwave energy without exerting it.
Using the more fine and precise version, is strenuous in its own way, forcing Firestar to concentrate and focus real hard which isn't as simple to do in stressful situations. While using a more controlled version she can make fine cuts in thick metal plating, and burn objects at deeper layers closer to the core.
Finally employing the very nature of microwaves, Firestar can project bubbles that penetrate a target, and then explode in an outward projection, 'popping' from within, which reflects the microwave quality of burning interior layers of an object before damaging the exterior.
While using her powers, Firestar tends to light up with a fiery aura as a side-effect, however, this aura itself can be manifested to a higher degree as a microwave shield. Touching that shield burns, melts or even evaporate objects before they can reach her, so bullets will melt before even reaching her body if someone were to shoot her while her aura is engaged. So long as her concentration is set on maintaining this barrier, solid projectiles will not be able to harm her. Energy based projectile attacks can still easily penetrate this barrier.
Another use for this microwave aura is that it allows Firestar to fly through meltable objects such as glass, soft metals, plastics and anything with a lower melting point than the temperature of her shield, giving her the capability of breaking into some structures by literally flying inside or walking through the wall.
As of now Firestar can only engulf herself with her aura and cannot offer protection for others, or cover a larger area to protect, limited only to her own body. This shield can burn through about 5 inches of steel per second if she pushes it to full intensity as she moves towards the substance.
With this power engaged, Firestar looks to be engulfed by a fire silhouette, and while she can still be seen, small flames appear to dance along her body. With concentration she can limit the parts of her body that are covered, allowing her to be more easily visible through the dancing flames, as well as allowing her to shake hands or exchange pleasantries. This also make her very visible while using her powers.
While for the most part Angelica stays by Emma Frost, and has accommodation set for her by the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, she does have a home with her father in Morristown, NJ. Despite everything they've been through Bart loves his daughter, and she'd love to visit her cat Pumpkin whenever possible.
Having graduated Emma Frost's Snow Valley Academy, as most proficient of her Hellions, Angelica Jones has become Emma's personal assassin. Whenever Emma needs something done, she can count on Angelica. In turn, Angelica is found quite a turn around in her livelihood, Emma being one to pamper those she favors. Angelica wants for nothing and if she did want something she didn't have, it's likely she could approach Emma and she'll get it for her. While Angelica comes from a modest upbringing, she finds there's a great deal of comfort to be had in the company of Emma's affluence.
It was the White Queen who gave Angelica her codename, but it was also the White Queen who provided Angelica with a special costume, made distinctly for her. Another element of distinguishing Angelica from the rest of the Hellions, they all had similar Hellions uniform, and Firestar's were unique, distinct, adding to the entire atmosphere of Angelica's being Emma's favorite, cultivated as part of Emma's machinations for the girl. However, the costume wasn't only different in its fiery looks, but it was also designed to withstand the vast temperatures generated by Firestar, so she won't wind up naked after using her powers.
Due to the constant microwave radiation around Firestar, as she constantly absorbs and emits it to varying degrees (usually low levels when not consciously using her powers for a direct purpose), she tends to disrupt signals such as cellular phone, remote control devices and electronics systems. Emma taught Firestar how to use this to scramble security system to allow access into high security facilities, for different, no doubt benevolent, purposes a certain mission might have. On very rare occasions, always when furious and using her powers without limits, Firestar has shown the capacity to also disrupt telepathic powers, as she did when she was able to overcome Empath's manipulation on one occasions. It's not failsafe, but possible. This only comes to effect when she really uses her powers completely without limits, on any other occasion a telepath will have no problems to use their powers on her, and many have done just that in the past.
Being source of burning microwave radiation, Angelica doesn't really gets sick, as most bacteria cannot survive the heat and radiation she produces.
While she much prefers to fly as Firestar, Angelica does have her driver's license, and can drive about where she needs. She's not a stunt or race driver, but hey, having mundane means of transportation also counts for something!
With the life she had, Angelica had to help around the house from a very young age, and as such acquired some basic cooking skills, helping her grandma look after her father, as he was mostly busy with work. Not many will ask for second helpings, but hey, she can cook. It's healthier than eating outside!
Under the constant supervision of the White Queen at her Academy, Firestar has learned to control her powers and finds new applications for them. Flight, controlled blasts, melting objects, heating objects, displaying fine control of the level of microwave radiation and temperature of heat she can produce. Learning how to disrupt and scramble electronic and computerized systems with her powers. After being manipulated by Empath one too many times, Firestar also learned that when she truly unleashes her powers, she can sometimes disrupt the powers of telepaths and empaths, although this last use of her powers is mostly a result of unbridled rage rather than a planned effort. She really hates it when she's used without her consent. Ironic, but don't tell her!
Angelica received hand to hand fighting instruction at the Hellions' facilities in Emma Frost's Academy, and while she naturally relies on her powers, she can hold her own. Sure, she's not going to take down Wolverine anytime soon, but she could easily handle people with no training and those who do not expect her to have any knowledge of hand to hand fighting. Amateurs are a more difficult fight, while pros are likely out of her reach.
Angelica has been artistic from a young age, she can draw, paint, sculpt and sew. Creating art of different types puts her mind at ease and holds almost a meditative like quality over her usually restless soul. If she were to decide to completely withdraw from the superhero scene, she may well pursuit a career as an artist.
While at Emma Frost's Academy, Angelica learned how to ride a horse. Emma kept her in solitude away from all other students and particularly the Hellions, but she was given Butter Rum, her very own horse to ride in her free time. While horses are not really that common to find these days, being able to ride them isn't a very common skill anymore either.
Angelica has been manipulated more than once in her life, by bullies at school, by Emma Frost (though she's stil oblivious to it), by Empath, and she hates it. Having had her trust betrayed so often, and having been mislead or plain out mistreated lead Angelica to develop a very suspicious nature. It is very difficult to earn her trust, she's been wounded deep and often by different people and tends to close herself quite a bit before eventually opening up to the idea of a new friendship. If anyone ever wins her friendship, they better be worthy of her trust, because when she is wronged Angelica tend to react with the pain of her past, and the reaction could be quite violent. This makes it very hard for Angelica to get new friends.
Through circumstances in early childhood, and later manipulation by the White Queen in her Academy, Angelica came to constantly fear hurting others accidentally with her powers, knowing she is constantly emitting microwaves even when not using her powers. She saw herself produce countless accidents in the Academy — all orchestrated by the White Queen — and was chastised by the White Queen when she was about to enjoy her first kiss, after all, she could have potentially hurt Sam Guthrie. Years of conditioning to distrust her ability and assume she can cause damage to innocents have kept her rather secluded, and made her introverted over time. Since graduating and becomes Emma's personal assassin, Angelica has become slowly but surely more confident about her ability to control her powers, and about who she is as a person. However, while getting better, some instincts and conditioning are hard to overcome. Angelica still tends to blame herself when things do not go as planned.
A childhood without friends, and forced isolation at Emma Frost's Academy which made all the other Hellions think Angelica was too stuck up to hang out with them, lead to a very lonely existence for Angelica. Her only friends early on were her cat Pumpkin and her grandmother, who died soon after Angelica discovered her powers — whether or not Angelica's microwave radiation had anything to do with it is unknown. After she moved to Emma Frost's Academy, Angelica's only friends were the horse Emma gave her — Butter Rum — and her chaperone who was more of a body guard making sure nobody comes near Angelica, Randal Chase.
Butter Rum died in a combined effort of fire at the stables and telepathic assault by the White Queen, but Angelica was told she lost control of her powers because of her attempt to kiss Sam Guthrie, and that she killed Butter Rum. Randal Chase died himself, though Angelica thinks it was Selene, the Black Queen, who killed him. With all the loneliness, and losses of those few she did have, Angelica is very much frightened of ever being alone, and anyone who knows this can use it to manipulate her, much like the White Queen constantly does.
Firestar was determined by the White Queen to have the potential of being one of the most powerful mutants in the world. This is the reason Emma went to such lengths to manipulate Firestar, trying to shape her into her own personal assassin. While Emma Frost has been successful, it doesn't mean others won't be tempted to have a go for themselves, affable people like Mr. Sinister and his ilk.
Angelica, the innocent girl she for the most part still is, somehow still has no clue that the woman she serves, the White Queen of the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle, and her compatriots are actually a villainous group. She thinks ther are fighting for mutant kind, and that she is on the side of good. While most don't really know about the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle, those who do may take Angelica for a villain and treat her as such.
Angelica was an innocent good hearted girl when Emma Frost got a hold of her, but then put through a series of manipulations, through physical machinations and telepathy, little by little the White Queen pushed Firestar to the point she killed. Worst of all, she didn't just kill for the White Queen, she killed for herself. For vengeance. She avenged the murder of her friend Randal, she avenged an assassination attempt on her mentor. But that was only the first taste. Little by little, with more telepathic prodding, more excuses and more set pieces, Firestar came to kill again, and again, little by little becoming the White Queen's personal assassin. Always with reasons, always for good cause, but what Angelica came to realize over time, is that each kill was easier. Sometime she even looked forwarded to these tasks. She is terrified to admit she just might have a killer lurking somewhere inside her, and tries her best to ignore it.
Firestar, as Emma Frost herself assessed, has immense power potential. She is likely even an Omega level mutant. She needs to constantly keep her powers in check, because if she lets go and stops holding back, she has the potential of permanently damaging the planet, it's atmosphere and its electromagnetic field. So she must constantly keep herself in check. In space, where it's generally safer, she can unleash enough power to sustain a massive Shi'ar interstellar transport gate. In space she's also capable of injuring the likes of Supernova powered up by the entire energy of the Nova Corps. As a result, Firestar is always cautious when using her power, and is prone to use less power than needed to handle a problem. Allowing enemies retaliation as she gradually increases her output throughout a fight.
Just as Firestar's body is made to handle her mutation, generating immense radiation and heat, it is also ill equipped to deal with the opposite, immense cold. When faced with cold based attacks, Firestar suffers double damage, and may lose consciousness if exposed to multiple cold based attacks.
Since her mutant powers manifested, Angelica Jones has been constantly under manipulations, telepathic, empathic, mental, even cunning words. She was very rarely in a position of making an honest, unguided decision about her life. As a result she had become like an open book to telepaths, empaths, and manipulators. She is easier to manipulate than most, and tends to fall prey to people who are keen with mind games.
Because Firestar constantly generates her mircowave radiation to varying degrees, she's a beacon of energy for people who are energy drainers, and is easy for them to find, aside for the fact that everytime she uses her powers she becomes very visible in her surrounding. When hit with an energy drain attack, she suffers x1.5 the damage, and is usually drained faster as such an attack causes her to release more energy, which only feeds faster into the drainer.
She is assumed to be the daughter of very well connected parents, seeing how somehow Emma Frost of all people, agreed to take her under her wing. She seems to be constantly in the company of Emma Frost, and those around the Hellfire Club's usual patrons merely assume she's something of a protege.
Within the select few who consist the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club, Angelica is known as a deterring factor, she's often in Emma's company because she's just another means to offer a more imminent threat. Not that Emma isn't scary enough on her own with her telepathic prowess, but nobody really wants to be burned alive either.
