- Illyana's life started out as normal as anyone else's. She was the youngest child to Nikolai Rasputin and Alexandra Natalya Rasputina. The family lived upon a farm near Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia. Their life was hard. There were times they had enough food to eat and times they didn't.
- Life didn't change for Illyana until she was around six years old. It was then that she was abducted by a demon named Belasco to another dimension affectionately called Limbo.
- It was in Limbo, that she would have a portion of her soul corrupted and changed, which would allow her to work magic; mostly black magic.
- Belasco's plan was to create five bloodstones from Illyana's soul which would allow him to bring Limbo to Earth and allow him to call forth the Elder Gods.
- Thankfully, for Illyana and the world, his plans did not come to fruition.
- Instead, as Illyana aged (Limbo time is quite more fluid and quick then Earth time) she was taught by an alternate reality Cat and Ororo Munroe about survival and white magic. The seeds these two planted within her, helped Illyana to resist the siren call of her dark soul. Along the way, Illyana also realized that she was able to call forth the portals she often saw within Limbo. While she was unaware, this was actually her mutant abilities manifesting themselves.
- It was only after the alternate Cat and alternate Ororo were killed by Belasco (and to an extent Illyana) that the young woman would finally make her decision to kill Belasco.
- Accidentally, or perhaps purposefully on a subconscious level, Illyana created a sword. A soulsword. The ultimate expression of her mystical and magical powers. This sword allowed the young woman to beat back Belasco and eventually evict him from Limbo. Her realm. She could have killed him, yes, but when she realized that would turn her into him, she stopped.
- Once Belasco was dealt with and Limbo was in her complete control, Illyana called forth a stepping disc and returned to Earth, where she ended up at the Xavier's Institute for Higher Learner.
- Life at the Institute was much different than Limbo. In Limbo it was truly kill or be killed. At the Mansion not so much. Illyana found it difficult to acclimate in those first few months. Eventually she joined the class that was given the moniker of 'New Mutants'. Here she began to learn how to control her powers, her mutant ones at least, and how to work in a team structure.
- Life was good. Or, at least, it was better then what was in Limbo. Sure, she scared some of her fellow teammates, but she didn't much care that she did. They'd either accept her or not.
- The New Mutants had /a lot/ of adventures. They went to different parts of the world, to space, to different dimensions, times and places … truly, just about everywhere one could think and imagine.
- Like everything, however, things changed. Illyana, who always fought the temptation of her soul, started to lose the fight thanks to several tragedies the team went through. Along with these stressful times, several of the higher-minded demons within Limbo were beginning to get uppity and question their place.
- This is what turned Illyana to her darker self, the Darkchilde, and what caused Limbo to merge with Earth.
- Thankfully, before the Elder Gods could be called down, Illyana pulled herself back just enough to sacrifice herself and send Limbo and all its creatures back from whence it came.
- Most thought she was dead, but beneath her burnt seemingly empty armor they found a younger Illyana. The six year old Illyana who was originally stolen from Earth not so long ago.
- Eventually this younger Illyana was sent back home, to be raised by her mother and father again.
- Happiness wouldn't last long, however, thanks to the Legacy Virus that started killing off mutants. Illyana, who's life had already been so difficult, soon contracted the disease and eventually died from it, as well.
- Death, for most, would be the end all and be all, but for Illyana, it wasn't. While her soul had moved on to /somewhere/, her body had not, or at least a version of her body had not. The Darkchilde was once more resurrected within Limbo by Belasco himself.
- Along with recreating Illyana's Darkchilde form, Belasco also pulled several groups of students into Limbo from the Mansion.
- The Darkchilde eventually found the group of students within Limbo and with the help of these students, the demoness was able to once again banish Belasco from Limbo. This act of 'good' started Illyana back upon the path of hero, as she turned her attention to regaining what was lost - her soul; which was housed in her missing soulsword.
- Unbeknownst to Darkchilde, her soulsword was actually on Earth. It took some time and a battle or two with another uppity demon, but eventually she found her soulsword and the majority of her soul was returned to her. With this, Illyana decided to stay upon Earth and even rejoined with some fellow classmates again as a team.
- Like before, this new class of New Mutants has quite the adventures. This leads to a third uppity demon trying to steal Limbo away from her. The demon by the name of N'artirh; an evil being Illyana knows quite well. Much like the others, Illyana defeats him, as well, with help from her team.
- While life settled down for a bit, that didn't last long. The chasm of hate between mutants and non-mutants continued to grow and nothing seemed to be helping with it. Combine that with the threat of the Phoenix Force coming 'home' and hell literally broke lose, as a divide split teams that once worked together found themselves at odds. It now became the X-Men Versus the Avengers.
- The Avengers wanted to destroy the Phoenix Force, whereas the X-Men, not so much. Sadly, the Avengers would succeed in shattering the Phoenix Force, but instead of dying, the Phoenix Force found it's way into key people within the X-Men group. Illyana was one such member of the X-Men. When the Phoenix Force imbued her with a portion of its power, Illyana found herself able to do amazing feats. She could bring barren ground back to life. She could make it rain where it shouldn't. She could do the impossible.
- While the Phoenix Force hosts started out trying to do good, like anything, absolute power corrupts and Illyana already had one strike against her, thanks to the portion of her that was already demonic.
- Eventually her time as a host to a portion of the Phoenix Force ended. It came about when she fought over whether to kill someone. That battle was enough to knock her portion of the Phoenix Force out of her.
- Life … well, it tried to return to normal. Some people were happy to have the hosts back, while others were not. For Illyana, she found that becoming a Phoenix Host, even for that short time, altered her magical gifts immensely.
- Her sword gained a new look, as well as the ability to now hurt physical things, not just mystical. Her magical powers on Earth increased, allowing Illyana to work more spells upon Earth then just the few she originally could. To Illyana, this was good, but in reality this was bad.
- This increase in powers for her was actually causing a disruption to Limbo. This disruption once more caused a demon to awaken to try and take Limbo from her. A demon by the name of Dormammu wanted Limbo and it wanted to hurt Illyana in the process, as well.
- While at first Illyana found herself in the thrall of Dormammu, it soon became apparent that she could hurt him yet. Every time Illyana drew upon the powers of Limbo from Earth (and within), it caused Limbo to break. Bit by bit. She realized at that point that she could defeat the demon by drawing her realm completely inside herself. So that's what she did.
- All the power, all of Limbo, Illyana absorbed into herself. This cut off Dormammu from the power it was drawing from Limbo and with ease, the Darkchilde banished him.
- At this point, Illyana knew she needed help in figuring out her new mystical powers.
- During this time, Illyana also learned that while she absorbed Limbo, that she could resurrect it outside herself again, if she so wished, but the heart, or the power of Limbo still resided in her. This power within herself allowed Illyana to now work magic both within Limbo and upon Earth.
- Shortly after Illyana absorbed Limbo and all of its powers, the multi-verse went haywire. These 'secret wars', caused the various timelines and alternate realities to crash together into one mish-mash of a world. For Illyana, her part in this alternate-alternate reality was that of the Darkchilde, responsible for bringing Infernal about. Instead of finding the good within herself to defeat the influences of her dark soul, she embraced it completely. Thankfully, this mishmash of worlds eventually ceased to exist, thanks to a few brave souls that 'corrected' the timeline as much as possible.
- For Illyana, she returned to who she once was with only wisps of a 'dream' foretelling how Inferno could have played out instead. Now she must continue to figure out what to do with her new found powers, as well as continue to keep her own dark soul in check.
Illyana can be a jerk. Okay most of the time she is a jerk - but there's reasons for it.
Illyana is a duality. Two sides to one coin and she tries hard to keep them balanced - which often leaves her flying like a One Winged Angel.
Sometimes the jerk in her needs to come out and say what others are thinking and do what others will not.
Illyana does not take slights well. It doesn't matter if it's a slight against her, or someone she's earmarked as friend or family, or just something Yana perceives as a slight. Whatever the trivial or potential affront may be, Illyana will immediately put that person into her dislike category. Once a person earns their place upon this list, Illyana will do everything in her power to make their lives literal Hell.
Illyana is the type of person that can make the hard calls. If she needs to, she can sacrifice herself, or just about anyone, to ensure that a plan succeeds. This doesn't mean she doesn't feel the pain of making the decision, she does, but she can isolate it and keep her eye on the ball. This attitude has put her in awkward positions and confrontations with her family and teammates in the past and while she could say she wouldn't do it again, in reality, she would. For Illyana, it all comes down to knowing how the future can be easily twisted into something horrible. She's seen it first hand and she'll do just about anything to make sure that never happens to this Earth.
Illyana has a great sense of humor, if you like sarcasm and black sardonic humor. If you don't, well, you might find Illyana's sense of humor to be a little bleak, dark, annoying, anger-inducing, or even frustrating. Her humor is used two-fold; one as a deflection when things are too serious for the young woman and two as a means to get beneath a person's skin and make them react. For her, this reaction is a way to control the situation in her favor and Illy likes having control. She's the kind of girl that will offer the witty responses, as well as the one-liners that sink their teeth into a person's heart. While her humor is very much 'mean-girl', she really does have a great sense of humor considering all she's gone through and all she's seen.
Illyana is not a meek or mild person, if she perceives an attack on herself or her friends/family, she will go on the offensive and attack. This can either be a verbal attack or even a physical/magical attack. Whatever the situation calls for, Illyana will step up to the plate and do what needs to be done. This is in part to her upbringing, as well as the darker aspects of her soul, for Illyana she must always prove she's Alpha and an Alpha always protects their people.
For all her cut-throat attitude, Illyana does have a soft spot. Typically this is reserved for children and those in need. These two situations are what could cause Illyana to show that she's more than just attitude, snarkiness and sass. With children especially, Illyana will talk softer, smile more often and generally act more gentle around them. This is in part due to her own messed up childhood and from this, Illyana wants to protect those she deems as innocent.
For someone so young, Illyana has had much happen to her. She has been corrupted by a demon, aged, de-aged, died and then resurrected. She has seen variable futures, been a host to a small portion of the Phoenix Force and battled her own dark soul for control. All of this has afforded Illyana an iron will and the ability to bend under terrible circumstances, instead of breaking. As such, Illyana is one hard nut to crack, or intimidate. She's the type of person that would find the scariest of scary laughable, simply because she knows what truly hides underneath the bed. For those people trying to break her, they would find it incredibly hard to cause this young woman to doubt herself, or her capabilities.
While Illyana currently has more control and even understanding of her dark soul, there can and likely will be times when the 'Darkchilde' emerges in an uncontrollable state. When this occurs, all of the good parts of her personality are repressed whereas all the darker aspects of herself are enhanced. Her rage is always at the forefront, if people thought she was cut throat before, it's even worse now. Even friends will get the brunt of her ire, sarcasm and vengefulness. There's also the possibility that she could lose her humanity completely and should this occur, well, the Illyana her friends have known would be no more. She would just be a powerful demon looking to enslave everyone/everything and become their rightful ruler.
Illyana's goals are pretty simple and straightforward. She wants to protect Earth, Limbo and her friends/family from harm. She'll do just about anything to make sure that happens. For the darker aspects of her soul, it would rather have power, control and strength, versus friends and family. The constant whisper from that demonic side is always warring with Illyana's more lighter side.
Revenge. Illyana does not forgive, forget, or move on easily. She may not show it, but the bottom line is that she will take all the steps she needs to, to right the wrongs done to herself and others. From Limbo to Earth, she will do what needs to be done to set things straight.
At a young age Illyana was taken from her family and had her soul corrupted by a demon named Belasco. This corruption opened up a whole new world for the girl, a magical one. Because of this corruption by dark magics, Illyana is now quite a formable sorceress. From this, Illyana is able to sense magics being worked, active and latent spells, beings or things that are magical as well as crafting and working spells herself. In the past Illyana was only really able to access the full scope of her powers within Limbo, but thanks to her brief stint as a Phoenix Force host, Illyana's powers have now expanded. This change now allows Illyana to work her full scope of magics both within Limbo and upon the Earthen planes. The majority of her spells are dark or black magic based, though she is slowly starting to expand her more light or white based magics. Here are some of the examples of magic Illyana can work.
SENSING MAGIC: This ability allows Illyana to sense both active and latent spells on Earth and Limbo. Of course, like anything, should the magic user be of higher caliber or a type that Illyana's not familiar with, there's always the possibility to miss the spell.
WARDS: On Limbo and Earth, Illyana has the ability to ward an area around herself, or a room. These wards can keep out both magical and non-magical beings if need be. Depending on the amount of power behind the ward they could potentially stop everything, or only some things. Typically super-human strength, or a magical spell/being that's on par with her abilities or above can break her wards; which is very painful for Illyana.
HEALING: Through spell, Illyana is able to heal injuries. She can heal just about anything, except death. Of course, the more deadly the wound the more energy Illyana will need to exert to heal it. Healing mortal wounds is a once a day thing, whereas scratches and minor wounds can be done multiple times a day.
ELDRITCH BOLTS: These concussive based bolts while magical in nature, actually do physical damage versus unseen magical damage. Illyana can determine how powerful they are and can easily set the bolts to 'stun', as it were, versus punching a hole in something. Typically the bolts at their strongest can punch their wood, stone and concrete at the most.
CONCEALMENT SPELLS: Illyana can invoke a spell that hides just her presence, or a group, from prying eyes. Not only can it hide them from sight, but it will also hide any type of noise they make and possibly even smell. Of course, technology can usually circumvent Illyana's hide and seek spell, or those magical users that are her level or above.
SCRYING: Illyana can invoke a spell that allows her to scry places she's never been. For example, she's looking for a person. She could base the spell off their looks, or if she had something they've touched, or something of theirs, she could have the spell seek the person with that. It's the same with locations. Lastly, her scrying spells can be worked with her crystal (which resides in Limbo) or via a pool of water.
ASTRAL PROJECTION: Illyana is able to pull her astral self from her body with her magic. Her range with this spell isn't far, she can only go five miles away from her body tops, before she'll need to stop. Her astral projection isn't exactly like psionic based projection, as it stays on Earth not in a person's mind, but telepaths/psionics can see her and hurt her while she's projecting.
The soulsword is the total expression of Illyana's mystical powers. The sword affords the person who holds it a variety of powers:
LIMBO RULERSHIP: Whomever holds the soulsword is the rightful heir to Limbo. With the sword in hand, the user would be able to control the demons, the landscape and the natural portals found within. Without the soulsword, Illyana would still have access to her mutant based portals (which are linked to Limbo), but she would need to regain the soulsword to become the Sorceress Supreme of Her Realm once more.
POWER AUGMENTATION: Should a magic user obtain the soulsword off of Illyana they would find their powers augmented by a factor of five. This is because the soulsword is tied to both Illyana and Limbo and is able to pull upon the wealth of magical energies from the two.
SPELL DISRUPTION: The soulsword can be used to break a variety of spells; bindings, wards, entrapments, illusions, etc. Of course, should a magical being or spell be more powerful than Illyana or her soulsword, then Illyana would find it difficult to break said spell or harm the magical user.
TELEPORTATION: Illyana will never know if her teleportation powers are a result of being bound to Limbo as a child, or if they were naturally linked to Limbo. Either way, when someone holds the Soulsword they can call forth the portals of Limbo, which allows the user to teleport from Earth to Limbo and then from Limbo to Earth.
SOUL STEALING: Illyana's soulsword has the ability to steal a soul from a person's body and keep it housed within the blade. With each soul housed within the blade, Illyana or the user, would find that the soulsword's powers increase by a factor of one for each soul trapped within. OOC NOTE: This particular power will only be used with permission and/or plot based RP.
PHYSICAL DAMAGE: In the past Illyana's soulsword was only a threat to magical spells, demons, or magical beings. Thanks to her time spent as a Phoenix Force host the soulsword has undergone a change. It now is able to physically hurt anyone and anything, if Illyana so chooses. If, for some reason, Illyana didn't wish for the person/thing to be physically hurt, she could simply will the sword to be intangible to only magical beings once more.
Illyana's only sole mutant power is her ability to teleport via portals that have been dubbed stepping discs. These portals are circular in nature and are typically a white/gold in color. After her time as a Phoenix Force host, Illyana's portals also acquired a very telltale crack of lightning sound whenever the portals open, or close. Because of this, Illyana now finds it much harder to sneak up on people, unless she employs a concealment spell of some sort beforehand. For her portals, Illyana can open multiple stepping discs at a time, with the largest of her portal spanning thirty to forty feet wide. Typically Illyana can only open portals within line of sight of herself, or a few hundred feet away at the most, unless in Limbo. Because of her connection to Limbo, Illyana can actually open portals anywhere within her Otherworld Realm with or without her being in the same area. While Illyana can teleport through time and even into the farthest reaches of space, she typically doesn't, simply because she still doesn't have the finest control over that particular aspect of her powers. For her range, Illyana can typically jump at around 4,000 miles in one jump without ending up in the wrong timeline/era. If need be, she can make smaller jumps to bring her closer to her final destination to bring the range downward. Lastly, for her to teleport to a place, she either has to have been there previously, or she needs to be able to see the location she's jumping to. This can either be via telepathy, a picture, video feed, or even through a scry spell via her scrying crystal.
In the past Illyana's Eldritch Armor was silver in color, but much like her soulsword, her armor has changed as well. No longer silver, Illyana finds the armor now black. The armor still only typically manifests upon her left shoulder, arm and hand, though more can appear when danger is present. The armor itself protects Illyana from both magical and physical attacks. It typically takes superhuman strength, or a powerful spell/magical attack to shatter the armor.
Three-Fifth's of Illyanas soul was changed from human to demon. While there were/are many disadvantages to being part demonic, there are some advantages as well. The main advantage is that her mind is now expertly protected from the majority of psionic based attacks. It would take a telepath of formable strength to breach Illyana's mind, if she didn't wish for them to enter. Now, even though Illyana typically keeps her mind quite closed, she can allow those she deems as 'safe' the ability to touch her mind if need be.
Three-Fifth's of Illyana's soul is now demonic in nature. In the past this dark soul of Illyana's would manifest only when she would lose control of herself, emotions, or swayed by a more powerful demon. Currently, this is no longer the case and Illyana can actually call forth the Darkchilde at will. Of course, willingly calling the Darkchilde forth always holds a risk to it, as Illyana's more darker emotions are much closer to the surface.
When the Darkchilde appears unwillingly, this typically means that the dark portion of Illyana's soul have won the battle and the light within her has fallen. When this occurs the Darkchilde will see both friends and enemies as the same. Fodder. When she's in this uncontrolled state, her soul purpose in life is to enslave everyone, everything and become the Queen of All.
Lastly, no matter how Darkchilde appears, there are physical and cosmetic changes to Illyana. The cosmetic changes are the fact that she looks far more demonic than human. She typically has horns, a tail and hooves for feet. If she continues to lose control of her darker side, her appearance reflects that. Typically this means her eyes glow red, her skin turns red and somewhat scaly, her teeth sharpen and she looks less and less human as she falls. For the physical differences, Illyana will find her strength and reaction time approaching the very low end of super-human. She can lift weapons that she normally wouldn't be able to, as well as picking men and demons up with a single hand. Her reflexes are faster as well, being able to dodge an attack far more quickly than she typically would. Again, all good things, but like everything, there is always a price and Illyana is wary of paying the price of bringing forth the Darkchilde.
Illyana has been part of the Institute for a very long time. She has been student, enemy and now graduate. Because of this Illyana has a place to stay, a small stipend to live off of and a community/family to belong too. Even when she's at her worse the Institute (for the most part) always welcome her back with open arms and perhaps admonishment, as well. Either way, Illyana knows she will ALWAYS have a place at the Institute or whatever form it currently has taken.
While Earth is technically her home, as is the Institute, Limbo is something else entirely. It's both home and former prison and now it's part of her, thanks to her absorbing the pocket universe and its powers. While Limbo has been resurrected from within Illyana and exists as it once has, the ties that bind both Illyana and Limbo together are much tighter now. If something hurts Illyana, Limbo now reflects it and vice-a-versa. While in some ways Illyana has more control over Limbo, it still is quite dangerous for anyone else but her. The demons within are still just as dangerous as before, perhaps, even more so now thanks to the tighter ties with Illyana. Either way, Illyana can use Limbo as her base of operation if needs require it. She has a castle, her magics can conjure her just about anything she requires in Limbo, and within the hallowed halls of her castle is a room full of magical tomes, scrolls and artifacts that could be used. Along with the magical items, Illyana has a whole host of non-magical items, as well. Clothes, armor and archaic weaponry such as swords, maces and spears. Should she need any of this, Limbo is literally a one-stop shopping place for them.
Limbo holds a variety of demons, from small roly-poly demons that could be deemed as cute, to monstrous things that look straight out of a nightmare. All of these demons Illyana has control (mostly) over and as such, should she need to she could easily call them to Earth to fight for her. Illyana has no qualms about using her demons as cannon fodder, if need be, especially since she could literally never run out of demons no matter how many that go squish.
Illyana is fluent with several languages. Russian, English, Latin and also the demonic tongues that the denizens of Limbo speak. All of these she speaks quite fluently with and while she doesn't know every demonic or magical language out there, she can at times still parse out some words to get a gist of the spell should it share roots with one of the above languages she knows.
Or should that be intimidation? However you want to describe Illyana is quite GOOD at invoking the darker aspects of herself to scare people. Whether this intimidation is for fun, or to get her way, or something she needs (information, artifact, etc), Illyana knows just what to say, look and sound, to put a little or a lot of fear into those who are susceptible to it.
Illyana was taught by an Otherworld Kitty Pryde on how to survive in the harshest of conditions with very little to her name. Illyana learned how to fashion weaponry, clothing and crude shelter to survive. She also learned how to hunt and stalk for food and to stay close to a viable water source, when in the wilderness. This training wasn't just for the physical survival skills, either, it was also to used to forge that iron will to live, for Illyana to win, and never allow defeatism to take her down. Both tactics of the Otherworld Kitty Pryde worked. Illyana found that will to always survive, along with the skills to stay alive in the Wilds of Limbo, at a young age. This particular skillset has only increased, as Illyana has gone through even harder trials and tribulations. Currently, Illyana is well practiced at surviving hellish conditions, such as Limbo, as well as deserts, wilderness and also the urban setting. The arctic is much harder for her to survive in, but it could potentially be doable if she had enough supplies to begin with. For the urban, desert and wilderness, Illyana would be able to survive for quite some time (without her powers) should she need to. She would now how to hunt, stalk, cook, fashion weapons, clothes and shelter in each of these environments. So, while accidents can and do happen, the favor is still in her court to be found alive and well by any rescuers.
Bluff, lying, fibbing, all of it, Illyana is good at. She's had to hide so many things for such a long time, that Illyana can truly lie without batting an eyelash, or letting it show by some other subconscious tell. It would have to be someone who knows her VERY well or a telepath in her mind to be able to pick up on the subtle cues that would tell a person that Illyana is lying.
While not the end all or be all, Illyana has amassed quite a bit of knowledge on the Occult. Her specific sphere of knowledge leans heavily towards demonic, but that doesn't stop her from having an understanding of other magics and their principles. As she continues to train and learn the scopes of her full power, Illyana will likely obtain more knowledge upon all the different magical classes out there.
Illyana is THE ruler of an otherworld pocket dimension called Limbo. Within Limbo the demonic denizens call her Queen and Illyana literally interrupts it as that. She is both judge, jury and executioner for those within her Realm. She commands her demons as would any good General and as such, Illyana is fairly skilled with putting the appropriate amount of authority (and intimidation) to induce the majority of the demons to follow her. While she doesn't necessarily take a commanding role outside of Limbo, she can invoke this skillset if need be.
Should Illyana not have access to her healing spells, she can always rely on the first aid skills that she learned at Xavier's. Basically she can bind wounds, broken bones and even administer CPR if need be. The skill is such that she could potentially keep someone stable for a brief time so that more skilled medics can come and take over.
Illyana grew up in a place that demons roamed. Those same demons were also her teachers and 'friends'. They taught her how to fight, how to live and that the world is not a nice place/nor is it fair. As for combat, Illyana has two forms. Armed and unarmed. For armed, Illyana typically uses a sword to fight with or some other form of archaic weaponry. The sword that she typically uses to fight with is her soulsword, but, she can also use axes, maces, spears and even shields. Most street thugs would probably not know what to do with a girl wielding a sword and as such, Illyana would likely have an unfair advantage against them. For more powered or skilled individuals it would just depend on their own skillset and powers for whether Illyana could defeat them or not.
For unarmed combat, Illyana is a mixture of brawling and snippets of martial arts. Her teacher within Limbo was an Otherworld Kitty Pryde, and that Pryde taught Illyana to fight with /anything/. Hands, feet, biting, kicking, punching and elbowing. Along with the more brawling arts, that particular Pryde also taught her the more stylized forms of martial arts. Mostly Judo and Karate and Illyana has only kept up with that training at the Institute. Again thugs are pretty simple (as long as she's not completely overwhelmed) whereas powered or more skilled individuals would offer more of a challenge to her.
Typically though, Illyana relies heavily upon her soulsword and her portals in a fight. She usually only resorts to unarmed combat when she can't access her powers and/or sword.
Illyana grew up in a very violent realm and because of that, she became very observent to the things and people around her. This also allowed her to learn the art of reading people, as well. It helped her determine whether a question or action would earn a good or bad response from Belasco and the other demons. While she no longer has the need to 'tip-toe' around the demons (or Belasco) that skill of hers is still used today, to read the people around her, both family, friends and strangers. This allows for Illyana (at times) to know just what to say to a person; whether it's meant to hurt or to heal.
Three-Fifth's of Illyana's soul is now demonic. From this, Illyana gains both advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that Illyana literally has a portion of her soul that isn't good and this dark soul, or dark light within her, is constantly at odds with the rest of her. It's a constant voice in the back of her head whispering for her to do the not so nice thing, the evil thing, the really bad thing versus the good. It's a siren call that Illyana typically tries to ignore, but that doesn't stop it from coloring her reactions to things, or her actions against people or her view upon the world. Along with her baser instincts being much more dark in nature, Illyana often gives off a vibe that animals and people might find disturbing. It's that sorta vibe that people often call the 'heebie-jeebies'; a subconscious warning that something is not necessarily right with this girl.
Because Illyana is part demon she has a susceptibility to sanctified, or consecrated ground and blessed objects. An example of this would be Holy Water. This blessed water would actually burn Illyana because of that demonic portion of herself. The same can be said should Illyana step upon holy ground, such as a Church, while it doesn't burn it still raises a low level sense of revulsion within her to stand upon it. Holy objects would be similar to the holy water, some could burn, whereas others might only give Illyana the heebie-jeebies. Lastly, should someone ward against demons, there's the potential that Illyana might not be able to cross said ward. Especially if the caster is stronger than Illyana.
Illyana's powers, both magical and mutant, are dependent upon Limbo. For her teleportation powers, Illyana MUST always stop in Limbo before she reaches her final destination. It's a waystation of sorts. Once within Limbo, Illyana will then be able to open a second portal to where she needs to go. For her magic, should someone take Limbo away from Illyana, she would find her magical powers severely limited. She would only be able to work those spells that rely solely upon her life-force energies, which are typically more white-magic based spells than black magic based.
While Belasco is no longer the ruler of Limbo, he's still out there, always looking for a way to reacquire Limbo and Illyana. Is unhealthy obsession with Illyana is enough to drive Belasco to make deals with other demons, for that chance to get back both his prize possessions. As such, Illyana must always look over her shoulder for his return.
Demons have their own agenda and the ones found in Limbo are no different. While the majority of the demons within Limbo are either too stupid. or too scared to oppose Illyana, there are some that secretly plot against her and her rulership. This is something that Illyana always has to keep in the back of her mind, so that when she sees the first stirrings of an Uppity Demon trying to rise up, she knows to simply take the steps to rid herself of them. Things, however, can be missed so there's always the potential for an uprising to take Illyana by surprise.
Illyana has had an odd life wrought with danger, death and rebirth. This has definitely impacted how Illyana sees the world, not to mention how she interacts with it. She's used to constantly being in that life or death state and as such, when times are more quiet, Illyana finds herself thinking too much. Remebering too much. Feeling too much. From this, the demonic young woman looks for something to quiet all those thoughts and feelings. Usually this results in Illyana looking for a thrill. It could be something as simple as clubbing, or worse, purposefully looking for trouble to get into. Either way, Illyana needs to find a better outlet for all these feelings and thoughts, otherwise one day she might truly bite off more than she can handle.
Illyana's powers have expanded in part to being a Phoenix Force host as well as having to absorb Limbo and all of its powers into herself. While she's currently being taught how to handle and deal with her increased powers, there are times, that her powers still get the best of her. This usually results in spells going haywired and not doing what she expected it to do, or the occasional odd portal opening without her permission; sometimes even with demons ready to come through.
