Calvin Rankin was born to a man who was himself a brilliant man, and a scientist. However he was not a very good businessman and everything that he invented and made was stolen from him in time. Of course that meant that Calvin and his dad lived in poverty. Sure his father was able to make sure they didn't starve, and that they always had a roof over their head. But hey the guy was wearing hand me down clothes all the time, so well he didn't have a good time growing up.
So Calvin grew up on what would be known as the wrong side of the tracks so to speak. He of course got in with the wrong crowd, and ended up becoming a shoplifter with them. He was basically throwing his life away then, but was good at what he did, never even got caught. However his dad wasn't happy with him, and let it be known that he didn't like what Calvin was doing with his life. But well Calvin himself was different, besides a wasted intelligence as his dad kept telling him, but no one knew how different he was, not even Calvin himself.
But one day he did find out about that, he went out one day, and was just stealing from the store that he was in, but something started to feel different inside of him. See it turns out one of the patrons of the store was a mutant, and Calvin's power was to mimic other mutant powers. But until that moment he had never encountered another mutant before and didn't know what was happening to him. But all Calvin knew about what was happening to him was that he liked it, and he didn't want it to stop. He followed the person who was giving him the power for over an hour, and eventually got his powers to keep, he just didn't know that he was following the person who would one day be Beast of the X-Men.
Now Calvin knew something was different about him, and it was shown by the rather large hands and feet he sported after that. Calvin was still unsure of what happened to him but he intended to figure out. He kept exploring some more, and eventually found himself running into more power with powers, and acquiring them as well. He found it rather easy to sneak around them and to get their powers. Though one of the last ones he acquired where a pair of wings that grew out of his back, and then he was afraid to go out, wasn't sure how to hide them yet.
Calvin then heard rumors of a group of other mutants called The Brotherhood. As the angry young guy he went looking for them. Eventually he found them of course, and they decided to let him join. He joined them for a simple bank robbery, but once some other mutants showed up to stop them, well they left him when the going got tough, and Calvin got arrested. In jail he was approached by Professor Xavier and given the choice to join the X-Men or stay in jail. He joined the X-Men, of course, and started his heroic career.
He spent a long time as a hero on his own earth, leading the X-Men, joining the Defenders, and even the Avengers at times. On his world, Heroes and yes Mutants were well liked by the population. But then he got sucked into a portal, by a person called the Timebroker, along with a group of others. There was problems in the time streams and they had to fix it, or else bad things happened to them in their timeline. For Mimic he would be on Death Row cause of an accident at the robbery. He had several missions with the Exiles and then something happened after they fought a group of Vampire Avengers. He ended up on a strange world, that he wasn't sure about, and well he knew no one.
While Calvin doesn't belong on this world, one of his biggest goals is to make it a better place. Of course there are other minor goals after that, like find a place a live, get some food. All the other stuff that he needs in life. He has the same goals as most people though when you look at it, he wants to get by, and of course help others.
Well Cal's biggest motivation is to find a place that he belongs in this world. He was stranded here without the Exiles, so that means that he has no way of returning to his world. At least that's all that he knows anyway.
Well on his world Mimic was one of those major heroic types. You know the type, the goody two shoes that the villains can't stand. And of course that is still the case. This is a guy who is willing to sacrifice himself to save his friends and others on another world. So yup, the standard heroic stuff there. Self-Sacrifice, do good, and all of that wonderful stuff.
Well it seems strange to have this one, but well even though he's a hero Mimic wasn't black and white like others. If he needed to he would be willing to kill one person to save a lot of others. However thanks to a few missions and stuff that happened, well Mimic has changed his outlook. He has now implemented a no killing rule for himself. He will find other ways to solve a situation if he needs to.
To friends, family, and causes that Cal has adopted he is fiercely loyal. As mentioned he is willing to die for his friends if he needs to, and others. The same goes for causes and family as well. He will do what he can to protect those others that he has is close to.
Mimic has the main power of copying up to 5 mutant powers that he encounters. When he copies a power he gets traits and weaknesses associated with them, for example getting Beast's enlarged hands and feet. Now when Mimic copies a power he doesn't get it at full strength, he only gets half the power of the person's current level. With weaknesses however, he gets the weakness of the mutant powers the way they should have been, without any other influences, best example Cyclops optic blasts, he can shut his off without a visor, but he can use the ruby quartz to help focus them. He is able to control his powers so now he doesn't randomly pick up powers when near other mutants. And if he wants to swap powers he is able to pick which power he can drop to gain that power.
Beast: The strength and agility of Hank McCoy, the Beast. Mimic can lift 500lbs thanks to this, he is also as agile as a trained Olympic athlete, and a little faster then the average human, but not superhumanly so.
Cyclops: The power beams of Scott Summers, Cyclops, are another ability that Mimic as acquired. He can control his a little better then Scott can though, as he can turn them off without using ruby quartz. He has a range of 1000 feet with this power, and is able to blast through such things like walls and even cars with ease thanks to this.
Wolverine: Yup he's copied the most overused mutant ever! Mimic has bone claws and a healing factor thanks to this, as well as enhanced senses. While the healing factor isn't as strong as Wolverine's, it's strong enough, able to heal him from well most injuries, as well as things like drugs and toxins. It has also been suggested that his will slow his aging like Wolverine's does for him as well.
Colossus: So you have the powers of Wolverine, but your claws are bone and not metal, what do you do? Well if you're Mimic you just copy Colossus of course! So yes Mimic can turn himself into an organic steel form, and gain great strength and durability. For the strength department, well he can lift about 50 tons if he needs to. The durability part is just much better. He is able to withstand a lot of punches, fire, radiation, bullets, knives, etc. Also while it is unknown why this happens, when Cal armors his mind is unreachable to telepaths. No one knows why that happens, but it does. However when not armored up, they can read him fine and communicate. While in armored form though it should be noted that he is too heavy to use Beast's agility.
Northstar: Mimic always tries to have one power that enables him to fly when he wants to, and so on one mission he copied Northstar. While his potential is technically that of half of lightspeed, he really can't go that fast in Earth's atmosphere. The fastest he can go is Mach 5 and that is in spurts. Also when armored up he is unable to fly, as he weighs too much. Also thanks to Northstar he does have a slight degree of Superhuman speed, but well doesn't really use that, since when in combat he does prefer the armored form.
Well he was out helping others on the Multiverse and stuff, so has made some friends there. Of course he doesn't really have any way to contact them, but well hey anything can happen. Also there are those that the Calvin of this reality may know, but well Cal doesn't really know them, yet.
Not a high level of a fighter, Mimic is a good brawler however. He is able to do some basic fighting moves, and has learned how to use his agility to help him out. But in terms of real skill, Calvin is very close to the bottom, as he doesn't have a whole lot of skill in fighting to call his own.
Mimic is also very skilled at learning how to use other powers. Once he mimics them, he can figure out how to use them effectively, though he won't learn all the stunts possible with them. But given enough some time he can master almost every power out there, of course he doesn't always have that much time to master the things.
On his world Mimic was a leader of the X-Men for a while. Also he was a leader of the Exiles for a little bit as well. He is effective at using the abilities and skills of his teammates to the situation. Of course there are times he can let his emotions get the better of him to cloud his own judgement.
Calvin Rankin has learned how to be an effective thief, self trained. Well he's not a cat burgular or anything like that he's okay at stealing. He has spent some of his youth in doing a lot of shoplifting and such things, and has gotten very good at it. But hey you need something stolen from a store, and he's your man. It is a skill from a misspent youth, but he still has it. Even though he doesn't use it much.
In order to permanently copy a power, Mimic has to be near them for 1 hour of time. Anything less then that and well he only gets the powers while he's near them. In that case of course it's easier for him to copy the powers of friends and allies then it is enemies, as he can easily find a reason to hang around with a person for an hour. But if Mimic sees some whose powers he wants to keep, well he just needs to be sneaky about following them, or get friendly with them.
In order to copy a power permanently Mimic must stay within 30 feet of a person. However if Mimic doesn't want to keep the powers forever, and instead just use them for a brief period of time that is relaxed a little, all he has to do is go within 30 feet of them then he can travel up to a half mile away before they disappear. But distance is very important for Mimic when it comes down to it. If he wants to use a power he has to get a certain distance, so unfortunately he does have to be aware of where a person is at all times.
Besides the fact that he only gets the powers at half power there are two other major limits to Mimic's power. And depending on the power of the person well this could turn out to be a bad thing. The other are powers that are close to his is in ability, such as Rogue or Gideon. If he tries to mimic another person who can copy powers, anything he has stored will get erased and he will become a completely blank slate for powers. The third limit is redundant powers so to speak. He can't mimic both Sabretooth and Wolverine at the same time, nor would he be able to copy Polaris and Magneto. He can try all he wants, but he just can't copy two people with identical powers.
Well Cal just came to this world from a lot of direction hoping. He really doesn't know anyone where, nor does he even know where he is. It's a tough burden on a person you know.
