The beginnings of Miss Sinister are a mixture of the seemingly mundane combined with the nightmarish. Born as Claudine Renko, she was a highly intelligent and successful business woman in her own right. It just so happened that she was actually one of a number of clones created for one of the most devious attempts at immortality a dark and twisted mind could imagine. There comes a time in everyone's life where the subject of mortality comes up. For Mr. Sinister, his solution was to completely avoid checking off his personal bucket list so he could die contentedly. Instead, he set about a plan to create a series of genetically compatible clones that he might use to imprint his own psyche and DNA upon should the unthinkable happen. And then it did. During the events the so called Messiah Complex, he was killed and his plan was set into motion. Activation of Sinister's plan involved the injection of a virus containing his active DNA into Claudine. To call it a traumatic change would be an understatement but, at the end, Claudine wouldn't trade for her old life ever again.
Calling herself Miss Sinister now, she inherited the very same lust for power, disdainful views of innocence and abilities of Mr. Sinister. She crossed paths with the Hellfire Club and Sebastian Shaw, finding their outlooks to be more than a little similar. In one encounter with Daken, Wolverine's son, she sought to manipulate him into killing his father. Her telepathic powers worked perfectly on Daken but for Wolverine's intervention. Freed of her mental control, Daken stabbed her in the chest and it appeared that she had been killed.
It seemed, however, that Sinister's mastery over his own cells and healing was also passed on to his 'heir'. Miss Sinister continued her apparent vendetta against Wolverine by pursuing his daughter, X-23, after the events of Second Coming. Luring Laura and Gambit to a remote lab facility that was now in her possession, Miss Sinister used a young girl named Alice as bait. It turned out that Alice was the fourth of a series of five clones Mr. Sinister had created as potential bodies he might reincarnate into. It seemed that Sinister's plans also involved taking over Claudine's mind and he was already slowly killing 'her' in a bid to assume full control over her body as his. She struggled with his memories and personality before regaining control herself. After knocking out Gambit, she sought to transfer her own psyche and essence into Laura's body in a bid to free herself of Mr. Sinister's influences once and for all. In a chaotic moment it all changed when Mr. Sinister's psyche was able to possess X-23 and use her to mortally stab Miss Sinister. Laura was able to rid herself of Mr. Sinister's presence and escaped with Gambit and young Alice. Laura and Gambit arranged for Alice and the other child-clones to be given homes to live in and left. Alice, however, returned to the ruined facility and rescued Claudine, carefully nursing her back to health.
Once she was fully recovered, Claudine was kept as a lab experiment by Sinister-in-Alice's body for months before she was able to escape.
Since the events of Secret Wars, Miss Sinister has made her way back to the United States and has set up residence in New York City.
Claudine Renko was a cut throat business woman to begin with. It's part of why she was on Mr. Sinister's radar. After his death and she was exposed to the virus to transfer his DNA to her, his utter lack of morality or concern for innocence over results magnified her own tendencies to ignore the risks to others or ethical ramifications of her actions.
It's all about what will give Miss Sinister power, influence, wealth and success. What she wants she gets or takes from others. To consider her ruthless would be a compliment.
She may have ghostly pale skin and the iconic diamond shaped ruby gemstone set into her forehead but it does not take away from the exotic attractiveness of the woman as a whole. Claudine is not above using sexuality to woo others. To use mind games. Or just outright reach into their mind and change it with her strong telepathic powers.
Claudine is motivated by her intense drive to survive and gain power. Before she became Miss Sinister it was in the form of business dealings primarily. After? Well she has all of these wonderful talents abilities and knowledge. Why shouldn't she use them to get what she wants? That Sinister has tried to reclaim himself through her body several times only serves to strengthen her self preservation instinct.
Claudine wants it all. And she wants it now. She wants to be prepared for the next time Sinister makes a play to kill her and take her body as his new host. She wants to make sure she has her own backup plan in case the worst should happen. And now she has Sinister's knowledge to work toward those ends. She'll ally with other powerful criminals and villains as long as it helps her, usually more than it helps them.
She can control every molecule of her body, allowing her to not only to change her appearance and identity but to also reduce her body into a semi liquid state that would allow her to 'flow' into even hairline cracks or openings.
She can heal wounds or replicate destroyed tissue rapidly. Depending upon the severity of the injury it could be only seconds or it might be hours or more than a day for grievous wounds. It takes a lot of energy to repair serious injuries and as a result her other powers are proportionately limited as her body and mind focus on healing.
Her body can operate at peak exertion for up to four hours before she begins to get winded and must slow down.
The changes to her body also give her the ability to lift up to 10 tons of weight.
Her reflexes and reaction time are faster than is naturally possible due to the genetic tampering and alteration of Sinister's DNA.
She is able to scan for, locate and read minds within a 900 mile radius. With great effort she can double the distance but it takes all of her concentration and she must rest and not use mental abilities for at least eight hours afterward from the strain. She can project thoughts and desires into a receptive or defenseless mind. She can cause comatose mental or physical paralysis in a single target within her mental range. She can project her presence in astral form up to half her mind reading distance. She can mentally control one other mind but only when they are in her physical presence. Her overall power levels are similar to those of Emma Frost if one were to try and compare.
She is able to use her telepathic abilities and her knowledge of genetics to reach into the mind of a super powered being/mutant and deactivate their powers and access to them. The effects last for a number of days inverse to their power level with stronger powers coming back more quickly than weaker powers.
She can fire blasts of concussive force from her hands or from the gemstone set into her forehead. Full power blasts are strong enough to knock over a full sized dump truck or punch through unreinforced concrete a foot thick. She can crack reinforced concrete but would have to unleash multiple blasts to come close to opening any sort of hole through it. The force is effective to topple a vehicle out to a hundred feet or knock a person down at 150 feet. Beyond that and it can be easily resisted.
Able to mentally move, levitate or otherwise manipulate living beings and objects. She can use this power to lift up to 10 tons.
Claudine Renko had her own wealth as a business woman prior to the death of Sinister. Once his virus imparted to her his knowledge and memories she gained access to a massive amount of wealth and resources including safe houses, hidden lab sites around the world. She has more than 3 billion in funding available with more invested and in other assets.
The knowledge and genetic research materials of Sinister are priceless. It is entirely unethical, evil and devoid of any moral validity. But there can be no denying that all of his research and that which she has chosen to carry on as his 'heir'. The result is that she may arguably be the foremost geneticist on Earth, or at least in the running for top three. In addition she has Sinister's expertise in the fields of Biology, Cloning, Physics and Engineering.
As a result of all the genetic tampering involved in transferring his legacy to Claudine's body, Sinister's virus has left her in a state of much-delayed aging. She will age over time but only about a third as fast as she would otherwise. The result is that she will still get old and age but she will likely live to somewhere near 200 years old.
As with her genetic 'father', Claudine has a genius level intellect. She can adapt and pick up new skills or areas of knowledge very quickly and has a vast array of knowledge to draw upon from what was passed on to her through the transfer of Sinister's DNA.
Claudine is an influential member of the Hellfire Club's inner circle. She has been regarded by some as a potential threat to even the great White Queen herself but has not seen fit to much such waves or drama. Just the same, she enjoys all of the resources, benefits, contacts and influence that a high ranking inner circle member would ever dream of partaking in. How delicious.
Claudine has a Master's Degree equivalent worth of knowledge in business operations and management.
Claudine inherited Sinister's world class scientific knowledge in Biology, Genetics, Cloning, Physics and Engineering (see also Miss Sinister's World Class Scientist Advantage Trait).
She may not be a brain surgeon by practice but she can effect first aid, emergency triage, and even perform medical procedures and operations with the skill of a doctor that graduated in the top ten percent of her class.
She is fully trained in martial arts and physical self defense and the use of fire arms. Her reflexes afford her a great advantage over most potential adversaries.
She is fluent in French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin, and Hindi. With her intellect it is not that difficult to pick up additional languages should she desire.
Despite the fact that her very existence was to become the new incarnation of Mr. Sinister, Claudine rather likes being herself with his powers. She was his first choice as host. He has others. He likely still exists out there. Alice was one such candidate but she is still just a child. To think that Sinister is not hunting her, is not going to try to take over her body again? Well she keeps an eye over her shoulder all the same.
Claudine is not exactly an albino but she looks close enough in most respects. The ghostly pallor, the red eyes. It is enough that she stands out in a crowd when in her true form. It makes her different. As most mutants know different is not often viewed the same as "exotic" or unique.
It's hard to not be arrogant when one is the foremost expert in a group of scientific fields that far exceed the difficult of brain surgery. She IS better than everyone else. And she enjoys making sure those who aren't worthy of her attentions know it.
