Born upon a vastly different and more technologically advanced Earth, Nacara spent most of her life being on the run and living in the shadows until the Mutant Control Team caught up with her. Then, like so many more of her kind, she was imprisoned and identified as a number. Humanity had risen to such power that they were able to suppress and contain the 'mutant threat,' though not all of the X-Genes were kept in containment. In her world the X-Men were nothing more than a government-controlled hit squad.
A mutant known as Hank McCoy ultimately condemned her and four others. The first inter-dimensional portal had been created and they needed 'candidates' to step through the gate, ones whom would have the highest probability for survival under unexpectedly hostile conditions. The initial goal wasn't complicated, bring back anything that looked valuable along with the various bits of research equipment being sent out with them.
The discovery had been made by accident, the largest mutant of the team striking and breaking an invisible crystal formation. Its destruction also led to him suffering from horrible acid burns. Unknown at first, the cause for both of these anomalies was due to a hive of microscopic organisms which, having been released into the air, covered much of the team. In Nacara's case they actually 'took root' throughout her, seeing her as a new home. Making the crystals appear invisible, and the acidic secretion which followed, had been nothing more than natural defense mechanisms for the hive.
This colony came to inhabit the pores and armored plates of her skin, ultimately grafting itself upon her entire person and even forming a limited mental connection to her. With time she learns to trigger the symbiote's natural reactions as if it were a part of her, including the hive's adaptive camoflague and acidic secretions. Now that the organism had also identified an X-Gene positive carrier as a viable new home it began to evolve in order to seek out other potential hosts to spread itself to.
When the few relocated mutants were ready to return through the portal Nacara instead winds up somewhere completely different, arriving deep within the tunnels of Manhattan.
Where she's from both humans and mutants are guilty, but the humans were the ones who started it all. Things haven't progressed quite so far in this reality. For her, the only way to make sure this never happens is to deal with it right now. Humans, and any mutants who side with humans, are her enemy. She wants to uncover their secrets so they can all be stopped.
Humanity should not be saved. Mutanity might not be worth saving, either. The planet itself is still fairly healthy and whole. What happened to her world cannot be allowed to happen again, even if there's no one left alive to appreciate it. Maybe it's the symbiote talking but she believes she's fighting for the future of the planet itself, not what's living upon it.
Part of her feels like maybe she should be joining other mutants in the fight. It's not such an easy decision to make, however. It had been a mutant who condemned her and four others to that alien world, which ultimately resulted in her now being here. So..why would she want to help them now?
Those alien organisms chose her for a reason, right? No one else was able to form a bond with them! Maybe she's gifted, or special, or some 'chosen one' or something, but there simply has to be something more to this than luck of the draw.
Morals..? What are those? Those sound like they're just going to get in the way of everything! No, I don't think so.
There's not a lot that she really likes. Everything else is out to get her. People, included. Especially people.
Keep her away from the spotlight and she'll do fine. The moment when she can no longer hide is the moment things start to fall apart.
Her reality may have had flying cars and fusion reactors and all manner of fancy things, but it was human technology that kept her kind imprisoned while they squandered their knowledge on recreation and trivial pursuits. She has a decent grasp of technology and what makes things tick, which is also part of why it all scares her so much. The planet would be better off without all of that crazy stuff.
Mutation - Her very skin and bones are made up of a crystalline substance, hardened or flexible where required, with the exoskeletal plating ending in sharpened points around her joints and extremities. This results in a toughened body which is also mostly translucent. It can deflect many types of weapons and impacts up to a .308 FMJ bullet, though any attack can still cause pain and internal trauma. She's able to safely drop from around 50 feet without injury and can withstand increased atmospheric pressures, such as deep water, so long as she is able to breathe. She's also quite resistant, though not immune, to caustic agents and radiation so long as they are not breathed in or ingested.
Mutation - While staying hydrated is especially important to her (Disadvantage - Hydration) this does become somewhat easier in that she can absorb a fair amount of water directly through contact. Unlike water meant for drinking, any fluid absorbed this way doesn't even have to be clean. Rivers and rainstorms are quite beneficial.
Mutation - Her fingers and toes all end in hard, sharpened points which are great for clawing, climbing, and opening stubborn packages while being terrible for things such as eating, texting, and handling delicate objects. They're sharp enough to pulp wood, gouge concrete and softer metals, and can be lethal to living tissue, though she relies upon this sharpness rather than raw strength for protection. The spined joints and tail can also be useful for catching a foe by surprise and increasing her natural defenses.
Symbiote - Post-infection, her skin can now shift its texture, color, and reflectivity so convincingly that she can appear to simply vanish into thin air. Even in broad daylight it can be incredibly difficult trying to spot her, light itself can be refracted right around or through her so that no shadows are cast. These changes can happen immediately and without any extra thought from her, the symbiote simply being allowed to act in its normal fashion.
Symbiote - The organisms living within the pores of her skin can emit a highly corrosive fluid when experiencing high levels of stress. While it doesn't harm her any, this substance is capable of eating through even the toughest of steel within seconds. Stronger metals take more effort, however vibranium and adamantium cannot be corroded.
Symbiote - The symbiote is able to physically heal herself, or others with a catch (Disadvantage - Wicked Healing.) Such healing is normally provided to keep the host body alive. Healing anyone else requires direct contact with their bloodstream, though the process itself is fairly quick (30 seconds with two points of contact or 60 seconds with one point of contact.) This process is often quite painful for the recipient and almost always results in some manner of side-effect. It's possible to use this ability offensively as well, causing one of these side effect without healing the recipient if she can maintain proper contact with them.
Her natural body temperature is also much lower than the norm, allowing her to blend in with background thermal readings from between 60 and 80 degrees Farenheit.
With the corrosive nature of her altered sweat she can start her own fires so long as the right basic materials are available.
Having infected Nacara, the organism soon came to associate the X-Gene itself as being a flag for another possible host rather than what the actual mutations might be. This gives her a sort of sixth sense for locating other mutants, an instinctive 'push' which is simply the symbiote's own survival mechanism seeking new territory to inhabit.
While the micro-organisms residing within her are technically all of 'one mind,' this hive organism possesses minimal intelligence of its own. She is able to trigger its various effects as if it were wired directly to her thoughts, however this direct link also means that she suffers whenever the hive happens to take any damage.
Climbing, jumping, falling, hanging from precarious ledges, squeezing into small passages, she's come to be quite flexible and agile.
When she needs a thing, she goes and finds the thing. Even though she hates technology she's resourceful enough to potentially make things that work out of other things which may or may not have been working.
She's never been a large or powerful being. Long before the symbiote had found her she was a sneak, a tracker, and a thief.
'Kratac' was an underground language from where she had come from, a crude and abrupt but efficient means of communication between other mutants surviving in the shadows.
Any sort of overly alkaline substance can cause her skin irritation. If it were to interact with the corrosive fluid made by the symbiote the result would be instant agony for both it, and her.
An obvious mutant from birth, coded, catalogued, and filed away like a dangerous animal, she's never had an opportunity to connect to the human side of nature. Her connection to other mutants is also hit or miss, at best.
Staying hydrated isn't just important, it can also be a bit of a challenge now that she also has the symbiote to feed. This is especially important if she wants to use her Corrosive Touch and even plays into the symbiote's ability to refract light when she's actively camouflaging herself.
While she is capable of letting light seemingly pass right through her, the transmission is never perfect. This is easiest to detect with intensely focused projections. Much like shining a laser at an angle into clear water there will be an obvious visual anomaly right where she happens to be standing, revealing a split within a visible ray.
Nacara's not a fighter. If it can't be handled with a couple of claw swipes then she's in over her head.
This reality is so very different from the one she had come from. The places, the people, the technology, barely anything meshes with what she knows from before! She still feels like the Mutant Control Team exists and may find her if she isn't careful.
Put her in deep water and she'll sink like a stone. This can be a problem as she still needs to breathe air.
The symbiote has a limit of how much light it can redirect. Too bright a light and this ability becomes overloaded, leaving a faint, hazy apparition from around the thicker sections of her body where the full amount of light cannot be transmitted. This 'burned image' can be difficult to notice and never shows fine detail about herself. Once overloaded she requires a few seconds away from the light source to regain full control of this ability.
These billions of micro-organisms infesting her skin do have some downsides. Should the hive ever come under attack she would in turn feel this pain directly, often acutely. Because of its neural connection to her she can actually experience a painful situation twice at once. Trying to remove them completely would be beyond agonizing and, quite possibly, result in lasting injury to her.
Stick her under a black light and she'll glow. Rave parties oughta love her.
Anything covering the surface of her skin will affect her Adaptive Camo ability. Being coated in water will cause her disguise to have subtle rippling surface patterns while being coated in dust or other fine particulate will make hiding virtually impossible until the interfering substance is removed.
Once she has direct access to another's bloodstream the symbiote is able to spread through their veins within a minute or less. While they are capable of repairing damage this way their primary focus is the search for nutrients, effectively robbing the host body of its own nourishment. This sudden loss can result in a number of different but temporary side-effects for the recipient, lasting for as long as 12 hours. These effects range from a migraine or dehydration to more debilitating effects such as paranoia, hallucinations, or temporary blindness. Due to the stress placed upon the other person they cannot be healed again until 72 hours have passed.
