Quick-witted, bright and smart, Shuri is very intelligent. She is, perhaps, not as brilliant as her older brother, but she has the spark of intelligence which drives her to be an active mind, always thinking, probing at problems and challenges, seeking and finding and testing solutions.
Shuri has succeeded at a task no other woman has achieved in many generations, becoming a Black Panther of Wakanda. She is a fiercely determined young woman, always pushing herself to be the best, and never yielding to the challenges and difficulties that arise before her.
Shuri is not quite a glittering idealist. She is capable of doing almost anything in the service of her goals and ends. It can be quite scary the sorts of things she would countenance, even the banishing of her own brother or making war upon the power of Atlantis.
Shuri is fiercely, unyieldingly independent. She makes up her own mind. She chooses her own path. And she stands back, remaining separate and aloof from others. It can be a lonely thing, but it is her way, part of her own quest for strength, determined not to depend on anyone.
It's not a good thing, but it is the truth: Shuri is very arrogant. To be fair, a degree of arrogance was and is absolutely necessary for Shuri to be strong and confident enough in herself to strive for the goals she has achieved in her life. But that kind of thing can never come without a price; it's not something she can just turn off. She's a bitch, and that's just the way it is.
As arrogant and seemingly selfish as she can be, the central strength of of Shuri's personality is an unyielding dedication to the good of her people, the good of Wakanda. More important than her own life, or that of her family, is the good of Wakanda and her people.
Shuri's primary motivation is the good of Wakanda. Beyond that, she has gained a much greater and broader understanding that what is good for the world is good for Wakanda. So now she seeks to find ways to help her people by helping that world beyond Wakanda's borders. She is a hero, if not the shiniest or most innately paladinish amongst their numbers, open to helping others because she has come to believe that what helps those others comes back to her and her people in need.
Shuri wants to find a place for herself in the lands beyond Wakanda. She wants to find a little something more for herself than just being the 'spare' heir to the Throne of Wakanda. And she would like to find a broader acknowledgement of herself as a heroine and a helping hand in the world, not just Wakanda.
Shuri's already incredibly disciplined and capable body has been enhanced by the taking of the Heart-Shaped Herb and the infusion of the Panther God's power. Her physiology has been enhanced to a level beyond the limits of the merely human, if only by a bit, making her the equivalent of someone like Captain America, if he were instead of her height and build rather than his own.
As such, Shuri is incredibly agile, better even than the best Olympic gymnasts, fast enough to catch arrows or even twist away from a gunshot. She is strong enough to lift a ton at her greatest effort. Her stamina is enough to maintain the highest levels of physical activity for literally hours, while her durability is sufficient that she can take blows of a ton or more of force with only bruising, and deflect non-special blades with only light cuts. She can run almost thirty miles an hour, and sprint nearly twice as fast for very brief periods. Shuri's body also heals incredibly well and quickly.
As part of the enhancements from the Heart-Shaped Herb, Shuri's senses are greatly enhanced. She can see in the dark, at incredibly distances are amazingly fine details. Her hearing nears that of animals, both in acuity and hyper- and sub-sonic ranges. Her sense of smell is nearly sufficient to actually track by scent, and is definitely enough to identify someone she has met before. Her sense of touch is also enhanced, able even to feel the difference in wear pattern on two coins.
Shuri may not be one of the four or five smartest mortals on Earth, but she is very intelligent, and that intelligence has only been sharpened by the Heart-Shaped Herb. Given the traditional measures of intelligence in memory, knowledge synthesis and speed of calculation, Shuri tests off the normal charts, well into the supergenius levels.
Shuri is a highly charismatic, compelling individual, a true leader. Granted, she had to find a way to get out of her own way on that, but she has come into her own as a true leader. It's something others can feel when in her presence, a personal magnetism most lack.
Shuri is a member of the Wakandan royal family, with all of the access that implies. She has actually served as both Princess Regent and as Queen. Currently, her authority has been restored to that of a mere crown princess, the 'spare' heir, but she is greatly respected and her commands have the force of law amongst her people except when overriden by her elder brother.
Shuri is protected by diplomatic immunity within almost every country on the planet. As such, she cannot be prosecuted by a host country for any supposed crimes, cannot be searched, etc. At most, a host country may demand that she leave their country, and may request that Wakanda prosecute her for frimes upon her return, or ask Wakandan authority to waive her immunity for prosecution.
With the economy of Wakanda well recovered and in excellent shape following the reassembly of the world, the Wakandan royal family and the country of Wakanda are some of the richest in the world. And as the crown princess Shuri has access to all of those vast and incredible sums of wealth. She still has to answer to her brother, and through him the bureaucrats, but that will largely be after the fact.
With Wakanda the majority source of vibranium in the world and the place with the best technology in the world for working with this rare and incredible metal, Shuri has access to gear built on and enhanced by vibranium like few others.
Chief amongst these is Shuri's vibranium weave bodysuit. This provides her with body armor far superior to nearly anything else in the world for its minimal mass. The armor's kinetic reflective properties leave her largely invulnerable to small and medium arms fire and basic melee weapon attacks. Greater attacks, such as large arms, explosives or superhuman melee blows can in fact affect her, though their effect is greatly reduced by the vibranium; her mass is unchanged, however, so these more significant blows will often knock her about, even when they do not do nearly the damage to her body within the vibranium weave that one would expect. Energy attacks can be similarly blunted and redirected, even electrical blasts. Shuri's bracers include tech controls and comms, while her helmet includes advanced sensors, optics, heads-up displays, etc. The suit is also equipped with advanced cloaking technology.
Next would be Shuri's clawed gauntlets. The gauntlets include more vibranium mesh, but they also include retractable claws with vibranium cores surrounded by sharpened adamantium about one inch long extending from the fingertips. These will tend to shred through almost any armor or surface but hardened adamantium, while the vibranium cores deaden the shock of the attacks.
Shuri's gear also includes:
- Collapsible batons/nightsticks capable of tazer blasts
- Vibranium-laced nets capable of tazer charges
- Snake bite pellets delivering knockout gas on impact
- desert sand microscopic EMP granules to disrupt electronics
- vibranium alloy spears
Wakandan technology is some of the most advanced on earth, the equal or perhaps better of Stark tech or the like. Shuri has virtually unfettered access to those resources as she requires them. There are a few elements of this worth noting:
- Midnight Angel Armor: this is advanced Wakandan powered armor, including strength-enhancements and augmentation, antigravity propulsion, built-in weapons systems including micromissiles, lasers, repulsors, enhanced sensor and communications systems and even energy shielding. Developed originally to do battle against the forces of Doom, this armor is part of Dora Milajae training for a special squad called the Midnight Angels.
- Panther's Claw Jets: These are advanced VTOL stealth cloaking-capable hypersonic ultra-agile jets roughly equivalent to the best quinjets, capable of transporting up to a dozen personnel and equipment all around the world with fighter-like agility.
- Kimoyo Cards: advanced Wakandan technology smart-devices, these units have incredible computing power, satellite access, holographic projection and hyper-secure systems.
Shuri also has access to the resources of Wakandan mysticism, including their shamans and their learning and spells. At a minimum, this gives her a great resource for wisdom and intelligence regarding mystical clues or threats, but can include assistance in dealing with mystical threats or developing and deploying mystical solutions.
Shuri's big brother is a big potential resource. Of course, she would strongly prefer never to call upon that resource, because she wants to prove her own worth and capability, without depending on her 'big brother.' She wants to be her own woman. But if what she finds needs his kind of help, it is likely she could call upon him and his asstance, if she could bring herself to do so.
Shuri does in fact have contacts amongst some of the other superheroes around the world, those she has worked with in the last several years before the Secret Wars. They know her, and though they may not love her, they have seen what she can do, and have reason to listen to her, at least, if she asks for help, especially if the help were as simple as information.
Shuri was the leader of this school, the Wakandan equivalent of something like Avengers Academy or the Xavier School for Gifted Children. The school includes curriculum for various mutant powers, magic and mysticism, hypertechnology and more. Shuri is not currently leading the school, as she has taken a sabbatical, but she has access to its resources and could even potentially gather students or faculty if she really felt it necessary.
Shuri is very well educated and practiced in science and technology, including hyperscience like working with and combatting nanites, world-threatening interdimensional incursions, hacking, hard-light constructs, repulsors, antigravity and the like.
Shuri has been trained and practiced since she was a little child in matters of leadership, and she is very gifted at it. Even when her arrogance was much more pronounced - and she far less proven than she is now - she was able to command respect and lead others as needed, including the experienced warriors of the Dora Milajae. She knows how to read others, understand what they need, and how to best give it to them to guide them in situations, whether it be speeches, actions, or commands on the battlefield.
Shuri is an exceptionally well-trained and practiced acrobat and gymnast, trained with and by the Dora Milajae, her skill greatly enhanced even beyond that degree by her physiological enhancements from the Heart-Shaped Herb and the capabilities of her vibranium-mesh weave bodysuit.
Shuri is highly skilled in stealth, in both being unseen or at least unnoticed, and unheard. Of course, she's not above using her technology to enhance those skills, but she learned how to do it all without that benefit first.
Shuri is a highly skilled combatant, unarmed and armed, in a variety of Wakandan martial arts and skills. She is capable of holding her own against some of the best fighters in the world, and has even learned how to handle herself in mass combats. She is also a skilled tactician and leader of troops, and an expert markswoman.
Shuri is a talented and well-trained pilot, capable of flying her own jets, even in air-to-air combat.
Shuri has training and experience in the wilderness, including reading tracks, tracking subjects, hunting, setting traps, survival in a wide array of environments including jungle, plains, desert and barren mountains.
Shuri has mastered a wide array of languages, both to better communicate with the peoples of her own land and those that surround them, and to communicate with the wide world. She is fluent in Wakandan, Bantu, Arabic, Somali, Berber, Kanuri, Songhay, Sudanese, Persian, French, English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Afrikaans, Egyptian, Greek, Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, German.
Shuri has a reputation, and there's nothing she can do about that. And it is far from a flattering or entirely positive reputation, because her rep is for profound ruthlessness. Heroes will be far less inclined to trust her, or her judgement. Villains will not expect or believe any claims or intent to mercy. And many on both sides will hate or at least dislike her as soon as they know who she is, because of that reputation. And she has earned it, and would never deny it.
Shuri is a longe. She stays aloof. She does her best to depend on no one. And that leaves her alone. Often unsupported, and resistant to asking for help even if it would be a good idea.
Shuri is a crown princess of Wakanda. She has obligations to her people, her nation, and her family. And she has to meet those obligations. She wouldn't be herself if she didn't.
Shuri has enemies, and many of them. There are the enemies of Wkakanda who would strike at her to weaken the country. There are the enemies of her brother who would strike at her to divert, anger or control him. And then there are the enemies Shuri has made for herself by her own actions. And they are legion. It's really a wonder she hasn't already been taken out.
Oh wait. She was.
Shuri really can't help herself. She has a chip on her shoulder, all because she constantly doubts herself and feels that she doesn't quite measure up. She's younger. Smaller. Weaker. Not quite as brilliant. Doesn't have nearly the reputation. The Panther God even rejected her at first, despite her having earned her way to the Heart Shaped Herb. It should come as no surprise that Shuri has huge issues with her brother, T'CHalla. And those who know her would know it's a way to manipulate her.
Rumor has it that Shuri was slain while helping her brother in attempts to work with the Illuminati to save the world from the incursions.
